Filter This! Internet Censorship Vs. Free Rights

As of Sunday 31st January, Australia's last chance to remain a free nation depicted by the Parliament resuming on Tuesday February 2nd. Why must we be put through this censorship that countries such as China and Iran already have? Free country? I thought wrong.
With an Internet censorship poll with statistics taken on the 22nd May 2009 from put in place 96 percent of user disagree with the censoring opposed to the two percent who think it is a “good idea”.




Some say it may be for the better as it takes care of some controversial matters such as child pornography, racism and hate groups. Although it will limit the knowledge accessible to the everyday being who would like to access information concerning safe sex, or breast cancer as there are key words filtering out websites. This website let alone will be very limited to view. I find that as a responsible adult, that this issue needs to be taken into such extremes as to limit possible helpful information to some viewers. Some people enjoy reading the dirt and with a country taking away a social rights, it makes wonder...this isn’t just about the protection against bomb threats and protection of children; they are limiting our accessibility to knowledge.

As far as Australia goes in blocking websites, I've read in a couple different places that the blockings won't be hard to get around for a competent computer user. I imagine it'll be about as tough as getting around a high school's blockings on facebook and the like. It DOES go against their rights, but at least for now, it won't be that big of a deal.

Question... where did you get that graph? It shows a total of 101%....

I don't quite understand how they got 101% either.

How would one get around that block in Australia? Using an IP spoofer website or something that is based in the USA and then going to the site?

Well some ways would either be by using an updated proxy web server, but problems may arise as some countries block out these sites (RFA).
Some companies have accessing services for websites that allow for the veiwing of free information.
I do not think that for Australia it will be taken into such extremes in the near future.

I've spoken to a few people and they believe that a few proxy's will be the way to go in terms of avoiding this whole thing.

Still, it is extremely crazy for them to implement a filter. I assume that the singer that sings about having sex and such with women will still be given the right for their music to be played on early morning music programs and radio shows all throughout the day? As well as the late night "call me now" ads? How can such things be justified as "ok for the masses" and a dentists office or online poker game not?

They get 101% probably by rounding to the nearest percentage point.

I have another link that has to do with us it's called the

Rockefeller Bill S. 773 to takeover the Internet in emergencies. As we all know, once taken over, we will never get it back the way it was before. This is what elitists have in mind for us.

I do not see the big deal. Filtering the internet i like trying to filter free thought, you can pass whatever laws you want but it would never really change anything. The internet is so big with so many sites it would be hard to pick out and filter what you would allow and not allow. And webnasters know this which is why they would just change their names faster than the government would filter. For example there is a free movie website watch movies that changes the name every week or so. So www.[pornsite].com would become www.[pornsite2].in or somthing like that. When it was founs out how useless this new law was it would sop being enforced. Just like in california it is illegal to eat and orange in a bathtub, when is the last time you heard of that being enforced?

I have person and or persons unknown interfering with my online uses now .
Whomever it is is turning on my system at 3AM, turning it off when in the middle of something or restarting it or pulling up pages when I'm posting to ATS to make me do things repeatedly (mostly turn it off when at my business site)
To my lack of knowledge Ft. Meade Uh I mean the NSA only records IP addresses used in this country and has something that activates a "springboard" when certian sites and or if certain items are called on the net, so I dont believe its the government doing it , I believe it is a person and or person (currently) unknown to me that is preventing me from doing the only thing I am left able to do and that is enjoy the net.
Whomever it is is probaly getting a laugh and using me as an experiment for a program that they want to sell to the GOV to prevent me from the net and to use on YOU tommarrow

Of course an internet poll will weigh crazy heavy on the side of not censoring.

It's like asking gun club members what they think of gun control.

The greater population doesnt care what the users want.

The guns got banned because of widespread ignorance and paranoia and so will the internet.

Wont somebody please think of the children? All of those against gov control of the net are obviously pedophiles. Just like those opposed to gun control are all obviously raging homicidal maniacs.

This is what you get when you permit any man or group of men to dictate how you may and may not live your life. Reign of stupidity. Tyranny of the lowest common denominator. The short bus is in charge. It's the same all over the globe.

Are you serious really? the reason why I ask I heard of this happening that’s when I am not using mine it goes off like I unplug the cables. but at one time I didn’t use to do this and strange things like this happened too really weird

I've had bad malware infections that would do that. My mouse would go nuts and pages and folders would open up for no reason. At the time I was a perpetually stoned college kid and I too thought somebody had wormed their way into my machine to watch what I was doing or just to drive me nuts.

Turned out to just be a crazy amount of malware doing random things.
