White Americans' majority to end by mid-century

my.earthlink.net

WASHINGTON (AP) — The estimated time when whites will no longer make up the majority of Americans has been pushed back eight years — to 2050 — because the recession and stricter immigration policies have slowed the flow of foreigners into the U.S.

Census Bureau projections released Wednesday update last year's prediction that white children would become a minority in 2023 and the overall white population would follow in 2042. The earlier estimate did not take into account a drop in the number of people moving into the U.S. because of the economic crisis and the immigration policies i

"Give us your tired, your poor"
I live in a state that is predominately Hispanic. In fact the Anglos are the new guys on the block, historically speaking and I find the mixture of cultures exciting and wonderful.
I know however that there are some here at ATS that somehow think the demise of the "white culture" whatever that is, is somehow detrimental to the Nation. Now is the time to express yourself and tell us your thoughts on this coming change in American demographics. Muchas Gracias, whaaa

I too am from a mxing pot of a city, Toronto, we have a ton of immigration and already visible minorities make up 47% of the Toronto population. I have absolutely no problem with immigration and mixing of colours, or even the dissipation of any colour, the only issue i ahve is the holding onto a culture of a country.
We are Canada, if you want to come to Canada be whatever and whoever you are but your now a Canadian, we need to hold onto our own cultures as we adopt more and more other ones.
Im not saying give up your native cultrue not at all, but just as you have dual citizenship or what have you you should have duel standards for cultural aspirations.

I don't care whether a black, yellow, blue, green or white guy lives next door because as far as I know he is a human being and we all share only 1 planet called Earth in this infinite Universe.

people who welcome this are cultural suicide merchants- I doubt many Africans or Asians would be "welcoming" their nations turning non black or asian..........

The self loathing and lack of appreciation by some never ceases to amaze me

I disagree, you can bring your culture to whereever you go and stick with it no matter where you live and not integrate with the culture of the country where you now live in.... as long as it's not illegal, oppressive or disrupts the peace.

For example, mosques with very loud audio/prayers on fridays, that disrupts the peace.
I am against that despite it not being illegal.

Otherwise, i'm all for being who you are regardless of location.
That doesn't mean one must be close-minded and not learn of other cultures, no it doesn't.

What about what happened in Quebec about the Quebecers making pork and beans and the Muslims attempted to sue expecting them to change their long held recipe to suit their religious freedoms?

Maybe a bad example but it got the point across.
When cultures clash, whos in the right??

I read about it before but can't seem to find a link to the story.

I think stuff like this might be what Hack meant...I could be wrong.

I hate to break it to you or anyone else but America wasn't founded on Hispanic/Latin/Mexican culture. It was founded on a majority of western European culture with a little bit of other cultures mixed in. Multiculturalism is fine to an extent............but when those cultures can't agree on a common language or a common border among other things is when problems arise. America is too multicultural for her own good. I mean come on.........the French can be proud to be French.......the Italians Italians.......the Chinese Chinese........the Latin Americans latin.......yet when we as Americans want to embrace a unified culture and identity we are racist? Gimme a break. America is a lost cause. I might as well go live in Poland where at least people have some sort of identity and are proud of who they are.

Then go live in Mexico, Saudi Arabia or India if you love other cultures so much. There is nothing wrong with being open to other human beings but it would be one boring world if we all lived and acted the same way. That being said I don't want to live like a Muslim or a Chinese or an Indian. My background is European i.e. French and Polish and Irish. However, I'm an American and I embrace what it means to be American i.e. owning land/a home, driving cars, speaking English, capitalism, the right to bear arms, respecting the rights of women, separation of church and state, the freedom to drive a gas guzzling SUV, and the list goes on and on.

Majority or not, we'll still be blamed for everything for the next 1000 years.

History will continue to be reinterpreted to make sure that white's look bad.

There will continue to be performance gaps on standardized testing between racial groups that will be blamed on white privilege.

It will be fun to watch if I'm still alive.

Oh I don't think it'll take that long

60% of their voter base is Hispanic
Makes you wounder how the Governator and his close the borders view got elected in the first place

That's not a culture clash, that's a bunch of whinning idiots complaining just for the sake of complaining.

If you don't want pork don't eat it
If you don't like that restauratn eat elsewhere
see... simple!

And I doubt that this represented a significant number of muslims
probably less than 1% of quebec population

To be honest, and don't flame me too much, I don't really like it. With immigration in Europe and America, the eventual minority of whites in all democratic nations is inevitable. Combine that with an obscenely low birthrate too!
So I dunno, I'm ok with it as long as history has shown that bad things don't happen to societies that become extremely multicultural.
Anyone a historian?

That's what being an american means to you?

Wow

I think you are a double agent trying to make americanism equate to being quite the simpleton

I strongly disagree. look at the native American Indians and the people of Hawaii. Since white man took over they have mostly lost their cultures.

Their culture is suffering badly and they don't like it one bit.

When this America loses all it's white majority we will begin to lose any culture we have built up over the last 200 years.

I sure hope it does something positive for music. It's been pretty dark these last 20+ years...

I wonder which ethnic group stupid white kids will be emulating next....

I don't care about majorities. Fortunately I hate only one group and it's not politically incorrect to hate them (yet). I am a proud stupidist. I openly discriminate against the stupid.

But then again, without the Stupid, there wouldn't be any Smart.... I think I just shot myself in the logical foot (again).

Well I think that firstly the entire basis of your argument is flawed.

You are saying that look at the natives, when the whiteman came here they took over and stole their land and overwrote their culture, now we can't let the same happen to the said invaders???

Anyhow, back on topic, i'm sure that the U.S. would treat that as illegal, so as mentioned, as long as it's not illegal or doesn't disrupt the peace it's all good.

As an example of success, take quebec. They've retained much of their culture. If you're outside of Montreal and Anglais, then you don't get much respect though. I think how they do it is by keeping everyone else out.

Culture Club

Wow, so much wailing and gnashing of teeth over the notion of the U.S. having a "non-European" culture.

Kind of ironic, when you put it in those terms.

N.B. In the old days, it was fashionable to lament the cultural intrusions of the Blacks, Germans, Irish, Chinese, Jews, Italians, Armenians, Japanese, Mexicans, Vietnamese, Cambodians, Iranians, etc. etc.

They have all since become integral to what it means to be "American" -- an ideal which has precisely diddly squat to do with one's country of origin, and everything to do with what our country stands for.

Love and kisses,

A Proud American
