Australia introduces web filters to censor the internet. Don't let it happen here!

Another thing I just realized is our games only go up to an MA rating...games and movies should be the same...but what R games actually exist?

That's pretty relative. Relative to each regions industry rating standard.

MA or 17+ games here in the US include most of what has been denied classification in Australia.

Enforcement is retailer policy as there is no actual law. The system is entirely voluntary.

Yes I also noticed a few movies on that banned list that I have seen at the video store. I have also seen some of these movies here in Australia. Maybe they are edited prior to release here like that huge list of video games. Or possibly they are just older movies like you mentioned and thus subject to a less strict censorship process.

I agree with you regarding daytime tv here too. But nothing really tops the after midnight adult advertisements. They make my blood boil and are very degrading to women....but hey that's an entirely different story, possibly deserving its own thread.

Cheers

I completely agree, they should shut down those sites instead of filtering.

If that can't be done then they should watch for all Aussie traffic that visits those sites and take those sickos out of our community. I'm mainly referring to underage porn here.

Filtering the net won't stop criminals or pedos accessing those sites, they'll find ways to bypass the filter.

I just read the entire ban list. The ban list blocks __._, geocities, and a couple thousand free porn sites. You can see the list for yourself at the wikileaks website, search for " Australia list"
