edit first part because I didn't realize that the person Skyfloating was replying to was named Dumbass. we need an embarrassed smilie.
at myself.

To stay on topic, I joined ATS because of what I already believed not the other way around. I came here to meet with other like minded folks. if it wasn't for ATS I would feel very alone.

Sorry I strayed off last night everyone...holiday houseguests for the week...

I can see various replies here, some along my line of thinking.
I too read various books before coming here, but as a child I focused more on paranormal and UFO subjects. Then I had someone in my life throw a little bit of David Icke and Alex Jones at me, and I had no one else to discuss this with, I totally thought he was nuts. So I googled and found ATS.
However..my point is, without a place on the net where we can all network and bounce ideas off each other, which reinforces our beliefs and makes us feel a bit less crazy...would you still speak openly to others? Would you fear ridicule if you didn't have a website full of like individuals to back you up?
Oh, and a big thank you to this site and the members here..for without you all I never would have proven that the individual in my life is indeed..nuts.

If it werent for ATS and the ability to express some concerns, Id still be thinking that David Icke is right - so yes, absolutely, being able to communicate it with others kind of shows you that you are not all alone in being curious about the nature of reality.

I agree with you...I would still be thinking the same thing. I'd still be cowering in fear of Aliens as well.
Were it not for ATS I'd say my mind would have been strongly manipulated solely by the reading material I had been exposed to. THAT is a scary thought.

It s one thing to read works written by those deemed the fathers of conspiracy theories..yet another to modernize the theories as they apply to society now and discuss that with others who are newly awakening to what's going on.

As eveyone says books where here before ATS and will be there after ATS, the way they are starting to crack down on the internet it will soon just be porn and propaganda.

I wouldnt know what's happening.. at all! if it wasnt for ATS, i was a firm government believer your typical pleb who says "bomb them all" but now, i've changed in the last 1 1/2 years, thanks to ATS it woke me up to it all.

Funny that i came here because my dream told me to i remember giant words saying "ABOVETOPSECRET" over this building, so i typed it up online found out ATS means above the eyes of government and "temps" and more for the senior military. Then the website below it and never went anywhere since

My father got me interested in Conspiracy and other alternative topics. He worked in the aerospace industry for over 30 years and we would get together with friends in the industry when I was young and I would listen to there conversations about our space program and there theories about technology, aliens and a wide range of relating subjects [pearl harbor, JFK...ect]. I just wish I would have thought to gather them together and record there thoughts before my father pasted away.

I read some of the authors mentioned, but it was ATS that brought many of these things together. It was my interest in Ancient Civilizations and the ever ending search about our true history, well really the truth about everything that keeps me reading.

ATS is by far not perfect, but its the best thing going.

Im gonna star and flag this mutha, cuz I don't know why others have not!!!!

You`re really picking up the essentials of the essentials today, arent you.

Without a good base, all the spices from all the lands won't save the sauce.

Often times I find that if I'm burying my nose too deep in knowledge (which I rather suck at retaining in detail anyway) what I'm really doing is avoiding something important.

Conspiracies (and others mentioned above) as all-consuming thought patterns are diametrically opposed to spiritual growth. Now I tend to use it as neural background noise to excite thinking patterns I might otherwise neglect to explore, which turns them into a tool of inner searching rather than a system of beliefs. I suppose that could be considered to be transmuting it into something positive.

Also, a cathartic environment like ATS where one can purge their stranger thoughts with little ridicule, sometimes even getting others' views about them in return, adds value.

A few weeks ago you said we have more in common than I think. You were right!

Conspiracy-Theory is a medicine to awaken from the apathetic slumber of unawareness, but later becomes a poison to positive spiritual growth.

THAT is a perfect signature quote, and a perfect example of why I keep coming back here.

I'd probably be living like that mad guy from 2012 who was played by Woody Harrelson. but only because I'd have no way to tell just how off the radar I was.

ATS - if nothing else - has grounded me. Some people are so extreme in their views that to hear what they suggest, makes me cringe. So I err on the side of caution. Only when something makes 100% verifiable sense, will I adhere to it, and only then.

But some hatters are just mad, and wonderland has got such a deep hole that they get lost trying to find alice let alone their way back out again.

That was pretty much my entire point however I was wary of him from the Usenet days of the conspiracy groups. The advent of Forums on the internet was not the first arena of heated debate between conspiracy proponents and debunkers - farrrrrrr from it.. lol

I even remember reading Stanton Friedman's claims back then in the more serious groups, and watching the hardcore debunkers belittle him to the point anyone mentioning him would give up responding to the immature attitudes.

Back around '95 or so, when my own ISP didn't even have DNS (Perth, we were there, but didnt have many clothes on) - we had to use IP's to get Email. Sheesh archaic or what. A mate me myself were tasked (as we knew the guys well) with finding a free nntp feed. So we had a lot of exposure to what I believe lead to current forums. Usenet still exists today, but how many people prefer yahoo or messenger to IRC - same difference. Usenet, or a web based forum... LAZY PEOPLE UNITE!!!

Even before that, Fido. R55. I was a node on a bbs when I was 12. 3:16/xxx I cant remember now, so long ago, updated once every 24 hours from an automated dialup script that would link form modem to modem grabbing posts from everywhere.. - Life, the Universe and Everything was pretty much the BTS of fidonet. Except no moderators..

It's amazing how people today just see forums, and think it's been this way forever.

lmao

Oh my I've gone on a tangent.. Haha.. nostalgia.. my bad.

Umm... Well, thats where I'd want to be, if ATS didn't exist... Back in the late 80's in the formation of how things are today... *evil grin* I'd make it better you see

I have came across this site many times while searching for information but never bothered to stop. There are many such sites available for reference and this is but one. It is a good one though. The people are already predisposed to counter intelligence, cover ups and conspiracy theories.

If I did not thoroughly investigate the Franklin Scandal I would have doubted cover ups could be conducted on such a large scale and involve so many people. Not even the Kennedy assassination could convince me you could get that many people to keep a secret.

After the Franklin Scandal (first known to me about 3 years ago) I now understand how such secrets can be kept...and why no one speaks.

Blackmail, involving acts of the most sinister, repulsive, depravity is a most effective silencer.
When that doesn't work - there is murder.
