Bush & Co knew about it in the planning stage. They thought it would be usefule politically. Why the looked the other way with the hijackers and facilitated their flight training.

I think everyone was surprised how spectacularly successful the operation turned out to be. The World Trade Center collapses weren't anticipated.

All around the damage was much greater than anyone had imagined.

Outstanding questions remain who knew what and when.

After the '93 bombing, we were promised they would both come down next time. They did.

One plane apparently flew into the ground.

I am not sure it was the raging over-success you seem to think it was.

Pants down. Yes it could have been prevented and they looked the other way. Saudi asssss kissing and PNAC. It's history. A few good men made sure it didn't happen again a few months ago.
