Suspected Jewish settlers today attacked a mosque in the northern West Bank, burning holy books and spraying threatening graffiti in Hebrew on the building, Palestinian officials and Israeli police said.

Extremists broke into the mosque in the village of Yasuf, near the city of Nablus, and burned Muslim holy books and prayers carpets, while sprayed slogans on the floor reading “Price tag – greetings from Effi.”

The so-called price tag is the Jewish settlers’ policy of attacking Palestinians and their property in retribution for any Israeli government curb on settlement expansion. Effi is a Jewish name.

While the attackers escaped, the Israeli government was quick to condemn the attack. "This is an extremist act geared toward harming the government's efforts to advance the political process for the sake of Israel's future," said Ehud Barak, the Israeli defence minister, whose department is overseeing the freeze.

When they discovered the desecration of their mosque, Palestinian villagers started throwing stones at Israeli soldiers, whom they often accuse of complicity with settlers when they carry out such attacks on them and their olive orchards. Two Palestinians and an Israeli soldier were hurt in the clashes.

Thousands of angry settlers gathered for a demonstration close to the Prime Minister’s residence in Jerusalem this week, vowing to continue building and condemning Mr Natanyahu’s decision to bow to pressure from Barack Obama, the US president. They carried banners that said “Obama wants us frozen, God wants us chosen,” and “God’s Bible gave us this land.”

The settlers believe that the West Bank – which they call by its Biblical name, Judea and Samaria – should be part of a greater Israel, and are adamantly opposed to the creation of a Palestinian state.

They have torn up freeze orders delivered by the Israeli authorities to settlements in the West Bank, and blocked inspectors trying to enforce the building ban. Last week at the settlement of Qedumim, close to Nablus, residents prevented inspectors from entering while cheering as trucks of building materials were brought in.

A right-wing cabinet minister said that the freeze was largely a sham and that the settler population could grow by as many as 3,000 people in the next 10 months, the period of the proposed moratorium.

"This is neither a freeze nor a suspension," Benny Begin, the son of former prime minister Menachem Begin, told a conference in Tel Aviv, according to an Israeli newspaper. "Construction in Judea and Samaria will continue in the next 10 months."

Great so not only these illegal settlers steal the land from Palestine but under protection from criminal Govt. of Israel attack Palestinians and destroy their Mosque. When Palestinians react back they make hue and cry allover the world. Pathetic, simply pathetic terrorist Israel Govt. and IDF. First they provoke Palestinians by such acts and when Palestinians react they get a nice excuse to carry on their Genocide.

When is the Western World Govt. do something about the Nazi Israel is anyone's guess as is mine.

idiot extremists again!! what a pointless attack.

i wish we could round up all the extremists from all over the world, put them, naked, on a desert island somewhere, give them big foam hammers and not let them off again until they work out all their issues.

in the meantime the rest of us could probably get some order on our affairs, fix the climate, feed the world, save the whales and get started on the important stuff, exploring the universe and such.

then again if this was an Israeli synagogue, some Palestinian Home will have been demolished by now in response or a group of palestinians would have been Killed in a Hellfire attack from an apache Gun ship.

So why has the Palestinian government ( terror faction ) NOT responded yet? This would be a 2 thought process of possibilities.

1. They don't have the fire power to respond to this or any other incursion.

2. They are actually responsible for the vandalism - looks like a false flag to me perpetrated by the elite members of the Palestinian government ( terror faction ) to garner words of sympathy like this thread is trying to do - more propaganda - just what ATS needs.

It amazing, that everyday, literally everyday we see a new article detailing some form of these acts. Yet there is still no mainstream mention of it, no real concern among the west, we go into places like this (the east) and we engage in their conflicts. Get completely wrapped up in them, invest trillions of daollars, but we dont pay any attention to whats actualyl going on. It baffles me beyond belief.
How an Israeli could write the words "price tag" on anything is unbelievable. You know who else had a "price tag" to claim? Seems to me the jewish community would be more upset by this than any.

At first i was angry to read this, like this could bore anyone, but the more you actually look at this statement it is correct. There are (other) genocides occuring in Africa, massive confrontations in Yemen, Asian massacres, and im sure a bunch mroe im not vagualy hitting on.
I dont think the Israeli, Palestinian conflict gets to much press, the contrary i think it doesnt get enough (off the internet). One cant help but agree with this posters comments that there are other atrocities in the world we never hear of.
IMO the Israeli conflict is so interesting to soo many is because everyone sees it differently, and many are intrigued by a people who have suffered such loss in the holocaust and remian in conflict with others.

didn't mean it as a slight on lives lost in the conflict (maybe badly worded), but glad you get my drift.

Some of those African genocides are shocking, yet are mere footnotes in the media- another factor with the Israel/Palestine thing is the way everyone who comments on it pretty much has a side, Palestine good, Israel bad (or vice versa), when it has as much relevance to them as the Turkish-Kurdish conflict

"Israeli Settlers" is a wonderfully generic term - 2 unruly Israeli teenagers with spray cans and a box of matches could have committed this act of vandalism, but the world's press will use it to fan the flames of hatred already present in the ignorant masses.

Just as we will see in this very thread.

The term Israeli settler is adopted by the whole world including United Nations except of course Israel itself. Even the EU latest report has mentioned Israeli is illegally annexing the West Bank so the correct term is not Israeli settler it should be "illegal Israeli settlers".

Edit to add: It's kinda ironic it's the same EU which first gave Israeli the piece of land and now they themselves are saying Israel is illegally taking more than it was given. Respects to EU for at least saying the truth this one time.

I do not support this kind of attacks by Settlers or against settlers... Those people are not going to stop fighting so give them all guns march them into a field and let who ever wins have it all. A death match winner take all. Then it can be over with.

Yes it is rarely told except of course if it's not news of Israel with Holocaust card or how brutal Hamas and Hezbollah is. MSM rarely every reports it and many many people allover the world are not aware of what is happening there. If you are not interested no one is forcing you to post here. Feel free to make new threads about African genocide.
