The Nevada Democrat, in a sweeping set of accusations on the Senate floor, also compared health care foes to those who opposed women's suffrage and the civil rights movement -- even though it was Sen. Strom Thurmond, then a Democrat, who unsuccessfully tried to filibuster the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and it was Republicans who led the charge against slavery.

Maybe ol' Harry needs a history lesson. Also, if the Dems are promoting a government controlled health care/health insurance system, is that making us slaves to the government? I guess that's the difference, though. Lincoln (a conservative) only abolished private ownership of slaves, not government slavery.

Gimme a R-H-E-T-O-R-I-C! Go Harry!

Can't wait until Harry Reid is know as "The former Senator from Nevada". From what I see, he is in deep trouble in his 2010 election.

The majority of American people do not support Government Run Health Care. Give it up already!

Whenever politicians cannot support their position with logic and reason, they resort to name-calling. Soon, opponets of health care reform will be called racists and nazis, if they aren't already.

BTW, Lincoln didn't abolish slavery. He "freed" slaves only in southern states that were not under the control of the Union army. It would be like Obama declaring that all political prisoners in North Korea are now free.

Reid seems to keep digging himself a bigger hole.

If he is so sure his plan is the best for America, then why the need to bring up such nonsense.

Amazing how he keeps jabbing at the Reps knowing very well he doesn't need their vote. Just goes to show he can't get his own party to vote for it without throwing Christmas presents at them.

My god, no depth is too low for these scum bags to go in order to push through this crap legislation.

Those who have endured racial discrimination, and know the painful history of slavery in the USA should be offended.

I compare this administration's and congress pushing through this legislation to slavery in the USA, because if this goes through millions of American taxpayers will become slaves to the government as a direct result of this godamned bill.

Now, there is a valid comparison to "slavery"

I don't know if it necessarily makes us slaves to the government. Government health care would basically force us to put up or shut up about our own claims of unity by making sure that we are all taken care of equally. People with top notch health care probably could care less that their neighbor is going to die because their insurance provider wont cover some treatment they need. Kinda greedy in a way. Every paper in this country has a forums, don't tell me there hasn't been more then a few posters saying "I don't want my taxes paying for so-in-so's health care etc etc etc".

I am not convinced this proposed plan is the answer, but the scam that is the health insurance companies along with medicare and medicaid sure isn't working IMHO.

The health insurance companies are nothing but a leech on human blood...but that does not mean I should put trust in Harry Reid or any other scumbag in Congress right now. Sometimes I just can't figure out how others can when they've been screwed over so many times already.

I agree with you. A saying I like to use is:

Q - How do you know when a politician is lying?
A - His/Her lips are moving.

At this point I doubt any American will trust anyone whose job is in politics.
