Brussels Gives CIA the Power to Search UK Bank Records

THE CIA is to be given broad access to the bank records of millions of Britons under a European Union plan to fight terrorism.

The Brussels agreement, which will come into force in two months’ time, requires the 27 EU member states to grant requests for banking information made by the United States under its terrorist finance tracking programme.

I don't understand why countries are so willing to sweep aside their sovereignty and allow a foreign government agency access to the private data of it's citizens. Especially, with no reciprocal agreement to do the same.

The entire concept of legal territoriality also seems to be slipping away year after year in many areas of law.

Assuming the CIA doesn't already have some kind of clandestine capability to do this, such information should only be handed over to them in cases of clear need and approved by a local magistrate and inconformity with local laws. Allowing broad "search" capabilities for fishing expeditions is sheer idiocy.

If I was a citizen of one of the 27 EU countries affected by this I'd be making some noise right about now.

To be honest I'm just suprised that this even makes it to the news.Let's face it the State can do what it likes when it chooses.For some reason they seem to enjoy rubbing our faces in it.

I suppose that's because most aren't paying attention and the rest are too apathetic due to rat race/worry/fear etc.

Even if this measure would help combat the frankly negligible threat of terrorism it's too high a price to pay.

So it rolls on.

They must be out of their minds to agree to something like this. It's obvious they don't care about their citizens by their actions. They have no right to give a foreign country access to the bank accounts of there citizens !

Every citizen in every one of those countries should pull all their money out of their accounts and close them out until their governments back out of the deal.

I'll tell you what, if the US ever reciprocates i'll close out my account without hesitation.

This was in the news last week. It's not just England, it's the entire European Union.

Everyone who can close their account should do it! Cash only.

Keep in mind, the CIA is a public agency which is bound to political scrutiny. This type of intrusion is and has been going on for the past 10 odd years. It is when they request the help of NSA that no nation or client pc (Linux/Win/Os X) has the ability to detect and be aware that their information is being monitored that should worry you. Then again, why worry if you don't have anything to hide, then again everyone has something to hide, its human nature, isn't it ?

I was going to load several files on ATS but as it was pointed out to me that this site will not handle such information, as such the files were uploaded to several other sites which deal and have the means to deflect heavy weight subpoenas.

Not speaking for a particular side...

"Financial Terrorists", or what I am thinking of, people who make money out of the thin air, are bad for people make an honest living.

They raise demand for any product they want, without actually working...putting the increased prices/lack of supply on the real consumers.

I am sure there are a decent amount of people involved in making "magic money".

Not sure if this is their goal, but that is my first thought.
