I, too am a NY'er(Now transplanted) and must agree with you at Guilies effectiveness as Mayor.

He deserves lots of credit for his accomplishments in the Big Apple. (Why in my new little neck of the woods, just a few miles away from Bumbphuck, we have more porno shops on the main drag hen NYC has in all of B'way&42 Street area)

But the "hate" so mentioned is a part of NY'ers political tradition. Since NY'ers work at light speed and demand only the best......near the end of a mayor's term limit NY'ers start seeing "him" as a visitor who has overstayed his welcome. NY�ers in your face outspokenness is often confused with hate. Hate is too strong a word.........

The one truism, often overlooked, of NY mayors is after serving NOT ONE has gone on to higher elective office.

That confirms what I hear from my friends in NY and surrounding areas. He made NYC nice for the tourists at the expense of locals. Stuff like "Not MY Mayor." I've gotten more than a few lectures from cabbies on my returns to NY when I'm stupid enough to say "Gosh, it sure is cleaner than I remember." Then they grumble on about some Task Force that killed a 10 year old kid with a toy gun (or whatever). Don't recall details...been a while for me. But I learned to stop being a shiny, happy tourist quick.

In any event, no I don't think being Mayor of NY qualifies one for leader of the free world. In fact, it may preclude you. We like 'em dumb and southern with the exception of Reagen, who was just dumb.

How about Wes Clarke as running-mate for Kerry? Super strong military background, fiscal conservative, good grass-roots backing.

Lieberman, if possible, is an even bigger SNORE than Gore.
Powel is a glorified Yes Man/Uncle Tom,(no offense Colonel) he is a sell-out to his race and to the military.
