My guess is that your basic premise is unsupported, and many would disagree with it. So, how could I explain a phenomenon that I don't think happens in the first place?

Maybe if you gave some examples of people rejecting alternative theories and accepting MSM ones?

Or were you referring to just the average person, not the ATS bunch? That wasn't made clear, so people might not have felt like answering.

My guess is that there's not enough doom and gloom in that thread of yours. If you don't put the fate of the world in some kind of peril it seems that threads just seem to drop off into oblivion here at ATS. Maybe if you said exactly what your original thread said, but before that say an alien told me to tell you all this, you would probably get more replies. You could also try and put a date, like say in 3 weeks from the start of this thread nobody is going to read this and then the world will explode when that happens. See, that incorporates putting a prediction date and doom and gloom at the same time. You should get at least 10 pages with that alone.

I read your link above and could not really determine what theories you trying to communicate and also read some responses that were different from one another and could not determine what direction the thread was going. It just seems there was no more responses after the second page. Sorry but I still do not see the theory or anyone trying to ignore the post, maybe we just did not understand it. Maybe you could try again .

You are averaging about ten answers per thread which isn't bad.

Your threads are not bad. They are just fairly straightforward and easily participated in and dismissed.

You might look at content, how you present things or just figure out what makes other threads go. One big motivator is emotional involvement, another is partizan or split issues.

The thread you cite as an example was (not to be mean but to be honest) generic. It had no additional information or room for 'conflict'. It was simply a one paragraph question that got maybe 10 responses.

That's actually not bad. Many posters start hundreds of threads and never average that much.

You just neeed to find something that you can spark interest with and dig in to it and don't worry about the post count.

You will find a niche where you fit in or get some satisfaction. Don't let it get you down.

I ,on the other hand, live for biting sarcasm and I don't think I've used any at all in this post.

I'm getting too nice in my old age.

It is not just you masonicon, it happens to many if not most, take a look around pages 2-3 on the recent posts list, you will see.

It's not that your threads are abandoned, there are several reasons, some people just don't comment, where you live is a big one recently, the worst reason IMO is some people seek leadership in the discussion from popular members, some topics fly over the heads of some (understanding), when your thread slips down the posts list onto lower pages, they are unseen, or people have seen the topic before, there are many reasons.

Don't take it as you personally are being ignored, that is not the case, look through as many posts and threads as you can, you will see, some even believe that threads with very low comments or flags and stars, are some of the best threads posted, not all but many of them.

I have seen some threads with dozens of pages of replies, and wondered why, and then seen fantastic threads with 2 pages which should still be running, and thought it a shame.

You will also find a lot of the more popular threads have a discussion going on between 2 or 3 members, usuall with differing opinions, or a bit of tension, they always seem to attract a lot of members who like that kind of thing.

But don't think it's because of you as an individual, you will go nuts, if you start thinking like that, it will put you off posting, remember your opinion is just as important than that of any one else, no matte3r if it upsets someone or not, it is still valued by most of us.

Look I would have ten high quality replies to one of my threads as opposed to ten pages of junk replies which frequently appear in political topics or threads based on fanciful conspiracy theory's .

Cheers xpert11.

I think the chainsaw weapon thread may not have helped your case either...... after that it's just a little difficult to take you seriously. Sorry man, just being honest.

Three pages is pretty good for an OP like that. You should be proud. Not every thread is going to be a blockbuster.

But all threads get forgotten with time. It's funny really, on ATS the threads that really flew for me were the ones that were really important, like how my first thread was about the squirrel threat in my local area. All I wanted was help, and the thread was like, 8-9 pages long in the end. And the other one was about me doing the hoovering and suddenly having a singing fit where I just sang 'Honey Suckle and Milton' over and over again, all I wanted was help, and I got it, but in the form of a 9 page thread. Then I go and do something like 'Space is a very thin liquid' or 'Theory on Black holes' or 'Terraforming not the way!!!' and to a lesser extent, the sequal, 'Terraforming not the way!!! the shameless part two' and virtually nothing happens. It's hard.

If you try to make something that will be popular, you'll probably last about a page, maybe two at most; but if you just do stuff, you'll find happy accidents will find you.
