Found this news today, sourced from MovieWeb & Variety Magazine/website:

"In a story from Variety, Joshua Jackson (Fringe) is going to star in UFO.

This movie is going to be a feature film version of the British television series that is going to be directed by visual effects guru Matthew Gratzner (Iron Man).

Jackson will play Paul Foster. He is a test pilot who joins up with S.H.A.D.O. (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organization), "a covert org built under a Hollywood studio that defends Earth against a race of aliens who have been abducting humans and using the body parts."

The TV series was very popular in the 1970s.

"Character development is the most critical part of UFO, and Joshua's terrific talent and range is exactly what I need to convey the inner conflict of the character of Paul Foster," Gratzner stated.

Excellent news..!!

Used to love this program as a kid, another Gerry Anderson production getting a makeover, lets hope it's not another "Thunderbirds" as that was a complete debacle...!!

I heard a few months ago that they were thinking about re-making UFO...once they start attaching names (such as Joshua Jackson as Paul Foster), then it becomes a little more of a serious effort.

However, I looked on Joshua Jackson's IMBD.com page, and there is no mention of this (yet). Perhaps the IMDB page is not yet updated, or this is just a premature rumor.

I agree. They turned "Thunderbirds" into a kid's movie. I took the puppets on the original "Thunderbirds" more seriously than I did the actors on the recent big screen version.

...going back to UFO movie: I wonder if the chicks at the Moonbase will still have the purple hair?

Who would be your choice to play Ed Straker? I'm going to have to think about that for a bit.

There maybe someone more suited that I haven't thought of, but as this is a TV series I wouldn't mind Kevin McKidd for this role, I thought he was really good in Journeyman, and is the voice for Captain 'Soap' MacTavish, in the massively popular "COD 6 - Modern Warfare 2"

Lets hope they drop the string vests they wore in the original though, or maybe I should take that back.....

Personally, I think Thunderbirds would have worked far better had it been done in CGI, people would be more accepting of a high quality animated feature than they would trying to fit real people into such scenarios.

Edit: Just realised, I made an error in thinking UFO was a TV movie despite the thread title saying it's a theatrical movie, not sure they are going get mega stars going for this sort of role though, so will stick with Kevin McKidd, who bares an uncanny resemblance to Craig Daniel Craig.

Yes -- Daniel Craig would make a good Straker.

So then they will have an American Paul Foster and a British Ed Straker. That's a switch.
