Okay i'm not a crank, i'm not attention seeking i just want to share something strange that happened today.

Ok i was in university, but was rather spaced out due to not sleeping at all last night, so i was struggling to keep myself awake in class and wasn't my usual talkative self in regards to answering questions and problems presented by the lecturer.

But TWICE the lecturer asked a question, and twice I immediately thought of the answer and TWICE the guy next to me repeated in the exact vocabularic structure as i'd just thought.

Hard to explain but basically the lecturer was asking us questions about musicology and analysis and one question was thus ' In regards to breaking down and studying musical form, how can we approach the analysis of music as its whole form without interference from outside context?' (or something similar)

The class went quiet as people stewed on the question.

In my mind (as i say i was too tired to talk in class) i thought 'To study the music on its own merit, without outside interference we would need to abolish recognised traits such as genre and style and look beyond the lyrics'

No sooner had i thought this the guy next to me said (yes you guessed it)

'To study the music on its own merit, without outside interference we would need to abolish recognised traits such as genre and style and look beyond the lyrics'

How uncanny is that? He said the EXACT sentence that i had just thought about, word for word. it's not like he'd even phrased it differently.

It happened again a few moments later with a similar sentence, again exactly word for word.

Now i don't wish to lose any credibility here, i really am not joking, and i know it doesn't seem like a big deal - but i was shocked and amused.

Any thoughts...?

Incidentally i have NO way of proving this, and i don't claim to be anything but i have my own theory that wave forms and frequencies and states of consciousness can affect thoughts (electrical pulses?)

Maybe i picked up on 'it' seconds before my fellow colleague?

Perhaps you've seen the question being asked and answered in a text book?

When I was studying my class would generally respond to a question as to how it is answered in the book.

Strange coincidence though.

Maybe, maybe... but what are the chances then of my unconscious just happening to remember an open-ended answer (with say a dozen or so alternative answers) and then have it repeated exactly by my neighjbour.

Indeed, but in regards to this topic (electro-acoustics) it's pretty subjective and open ended. For example the guy could have easily replied with 'To avoid bias we look at the music as seperate from the artist and image' or something...

Strange coincidence though.

Aye!

I have had that happen before,
it is almost feels like you have influenced their thoughts, or both got it from the same 'source'

Like I said you hear someone say your thoughts, it is kind of freaky, but even FREAKIER is when you say something, and someone else goes, omg I was just thinking those exact words!

Also like countless times I have a song stuck in my head. But sometimes it will be a song I only hear once and of a genre I hate. I Will Survive example, just in my head with no radio near. Then get into my car, and what is on the radio, at the exact lyric I was at?

But there is always more obvious explanation. Sometimes I wonder if thoughts, being transmit by neural impulse (electricity) can somehow make way into a radio wave? And maybe this is why people can 'read minds' and claim to be psychic? Not to burst anyones bubble but if is a real phenomenon... it would be scientific I think.

Can't say I know too much about electro-acoustics, or anything for that matter.

But I wish you luck trying to figure that out, because you'll need it.

Exactly... This is what i tried to say myself. Thankyou

Anybody know of any studies on this theory?

Haha it's gonna play with my mind for the rest of the day.

Thanks for your reply

Cool story! The sleep deprivation / exhaustion is an interesting factor to take into account here. I am curious about your diet that day though. Did you consume a lot of caffeine? How about fast sugars like candy?

Any drugs like adderall or adhd medications?

How close were you to the pupil next to you?

I ask because I am wondering if there is the possibility that your brain and the other student's brain were both near the same frequency at the time and got 'entrained' because maybe yours was stimulated. It would likely be an asymmetric entrainment causing the two of you to almost share an idea. I'm just thinking waaaay outside the box here but why not?

Yes coffee and tea.

Nothing prescribed. Nicoteine and herbal smoke.

Virtually touching, less than half a foot away.

No that's great, out of the box theories are good. Thanks.

Just thinking out loud, but it is said we emit an electric (some may say magnetic but I disagree) field, and I could prove because when I was little I could affect the radio by going near it, would suddenly go all staticy if I am near, and of course there is less believable tales of people shattering light bulbs and such, but at least the possibility exist.

I think that 'auras' as people always say is probably the natural electric field, such as why you can feel it, electrical stimulation, also why sensual touch can give good feelings.

People always forget/ignore that electrical stimulation is what make us dream, think, feel, etc. and this electric field just around our bodies and not very powerful, may be able to travel with the right help. Maybe somehow, a cell phone transmitter or...?

Well psychology is my specialty, not biology (so much) and especially not technology engineering...

That sounds like a lecture I wish i was at.
It also verifies what I have been doing is correct in my approach to making music.
When recording or writing a new song I stay away from all forms of music as to not be influenced.
That way I get a better handle on what I do and what MY music is.

As for your strange incident...I have no clue how to answer you on that one as I only focused on what I saw that hit a chord with me.

We all have energy fields around us, sitting that close you were inside each others field and had access to each others information and thoughts.

Great story... I had similar exoeriences twice, but just with people who share my birthsign. I often thought that people with the same sign have a special connection but that's certainly not the only way to receive another persons thoughts.
