Italy's Foreign Minister says post-Lisbon EU needs a European Army

Italy is to push for the creation of a European Army after the "new Europe" takes shape at this week's crucial EU summit following the adoption of the Lisbon Treaty.

In an interview with The Times at his office in the monumental marble-halled Foreign Ministry on the banks of the Tiber, Mr Frattini said: "We have finally concluded a never-ending story". The Lisbon Treaty, which comes into force in December, will be sealed on Thursday with an EU summit to choose an EU President and Foreign Minister.

For the past two decades the proposed European Army has already been playing at soldiers on Numerous United Nations and NATO tours in theatres such as Bosnia, Kosovo and Macedonia and more recently Afghanistan.

Look a little more closely at these real world deployments and you will get a highlighted example of who will exactly supply the teeth and experience to this Army.

These Multinational efforts amount to little more than British Troops doing the bulk of the fighting and being in harms way while being " supported " by the rest of Europe, with a very few notable exceptions.

Nations that under supply numbers of soldiers or keep those that they do supply in safer areas under limited rules of engagement are going to be our proposed Military leaders and partners?

It was a "necessary objective to have a European army", Mr Frattini said. "Take Afghanistan: at present President Obama asks Poland, or Italy, or Great Britain for more troops. If there were a European army, he would have a 'toolbox' to draw from. He might need 30 aeroplanes: he would be able to ask if the European army was in a position to provide them."

Well like Abraham Maslow said: "If the only tool you have is a hammer, you will see every problem as a nail." Once an European army with interventional capacity is created, you can bet your pension, that they will also use it. In fact, they have already planned, how to use their upcoming European army.

The European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) is a Paris-based autonomous agency of the European Union. This year it has released a strategy paper "What ambitions for European Defence in 2020", which is eeringly similar to PNAC.
