I'm thinking that the reason is, the Moon is basically grey. It's rock. Rock tends to be kind of greyish, brownish, so-called "earth tones". Or
in this case, "Moon tones".
Even when guys are taking photos on the moon, it still comes out grey. So why wouldn't it look kind of grey to us?
Of course, pollution and other effects sometimes give the Moon a reddish, bluish, or other color, but that's a trick of the light. As far as I can
tell, the Moon's real color is grey.
