There was a Royal Ordnance Factory at Cardiff which would most likely have had some underground facilities. It was closed when AWE was privatised.

There are numerous.
A few are NATO

I was under the impression that MOD Boscombe Down here in the UK was our effective equivalent of Area 51???

I have been there and tried to get close to the perimeter but if you are seen hanging around or with a camera round your neck looking shady, you are very quickly told to move on, even the local Plod get involved.

If I am not on their property, it shouldn't matter! But they really hate sightseers and that tells me they have something to hide.

You don't get this anywhere else I have been in the UK next to US or UK Military Bases.

So if anybody can shed some more light on Boscombe Down, I would be very interested to find out more and it would be greatly appreciated.

Some inside info would be best not the usual WiKi blurb.....!!

Unless they are just barracks you will find that most operational bases are the same. Fylingdales for example, if you even set foot on the track to it, you will attract attention, point a camera from that road and you will be told to move on. Even at a garrison, there is a cycle track through one near me, if you linger, you will get approached by the sentry and asked to move on, and the periphery, though largely unmanned, is covered in CCTV cameras. If nothing else, a base will contain ordnance, which particularly in the UK, needs to be guarded and protected from theft. Most, if not all, 'secret projects' are in the hands of private contractors and that is generally the give away that such things are afoot, as in Lockheed Martin managing the nuclear weapons facility at Aldermaston.

Fylingdales hosts the radar and hub of a complex missile defence system - the facility is not even allowed to be filmed by the media. A mile exclusions zone is around the facility.

The main road runs within a few hundred metres of it, I've passed by it many times. And, as it is on national park land, I am perfectly within my rights to walk right up to it and cannot be forceably removed unless I attempt to enter. No mile exclusion zone there I can assure you.

It won't be very big, but that doesn't matter as the anglo-american relationship takes care of that. Our military war machines are interwoven with each other hence a combined budget for the most part. Supposedly Americas known black budget is more than the uk's entire military budget. The TR-3B(triangle UAV) is supposedly an anglo-american black project.

Yes I have been there a few times. There IS a lot of dark things happening there. From my own experience it is mostly NBC (nuclear, biological and chemical warfare) stuff. I also know people who i served with who volunteered for experiments at boscombe down, and lets just say that they did not come back the same people!
As for another members question about underground bases; i do know of one on the east coast in Norfolk. It is a listening station, with huge dome antenna arrays. The biggest part of it is underground, and it stretches out under the north sea.

Using Google Maps and scanning along the whole Norfolk coastline, the only place I can see that is some kind of Base with a White Ball is RAF Trimingham.

Is that what you're on about?

I am also keen to learn more about RAF Bardford in Oxfordshire and more about RAF Croughton if anybody knows something from the inside etc.?
