Here is something new, it would appear that the Russians are already doing their part in terms of trying to clean up the space around us. This is a small snippet, but it could be an indicator of at least some hope for this problem by turning capitalism on it.

Space Garbage Market Could Reach $3Bln a Year
11 November 2009

Russia may earn hundreds of millions of dollars a year being a “garbage collector” in space, rocket-builder Energia said Tuesday.

There are more than 1,200 defunct objects orbiting Earth that need to be removed to make room for new satellites, said Vitaly Lopota, a director of state-run Energia, Interfax reported.

The market for disposing of orbiting debris may reach $3 billion a year by 2020, and Russia plans to have at least a quarter of the business, Lopota said.

Right, so I'm guessing you're not really looking at this too much are you?
This is a bigger threat than what many people post on this site anyways. This is a threat, a threat to our emerging and young society, a threat to the potential that humanity has as a whole, a threat to what has been established already, this is a threat to the economy, communications, this item known as the internet, military and civilian GPS, as I already stated it is a threat to air travel.
Do I really need to rant about this? I suppose it's best for some to ignore the facts then, Ignorance is Bliss? Personally I'll take the Red Pill because I prefer reality over ignorance.

Call me crazy, but I'm going to put forth the idea that we're going to deal with the problem when it becomes profitable. Easier space travel is going to make the jump, just like propeller craft to jet planes. And once we can get work crews up there, people are going to start salvaging the brass, aluminum and other 'junk' from up there to process and sell.

But until then, nobodies solving that problem because nobody wants to throw money into outer space.
