Saudi draconian justice crucifixion

RIYADH (Reuters) - A Saudi court of cassation upheld a ruling to behead and crucify a 22-year-old man convicted of raping five children and leaving one of them to die in the desert, newspapers reported on Tuesday.

The convict was arrested earlier this year after a seven-year old boy helped police in their investigation. The child left in the desert after the rape was three years old, Okaz newspaper said.

International rights groups have accused the kingdom, the birthplace of Islam, of applying draconian justice, beheading murderers, rapists and drug traffickers in public. So far this year about 40 people have been executed in Saudi Arabia.

In Saudi Arabia, crucifixion means tying the body of the convict to wooden beams to be displayed to the public after beheading.

It's not like the rapist/murderer didn't deserve it. Maybe we should start doing that here in America as well. I bet child rape/murder crime would greatly decrease.

The guy raped five children.

Beheading and crucifiction seems quite a fitting punishment.

Considering what the sicko did, I am having a hard time finding any sort of sympathy for him.

Maybe a few other paedophiles will keep their sick thoughts to themselves and not actually act out on their impulses after hearing or seeing the kind of justice they will receive.

Instead of the sensational "draconian" reference maybe it should read
"fitting and appropriate"

I think public beheading is a bit out of line and inhumane. Why don't they take him out back and shoot him?

Make it simple.

When a government kills with violence it can only inspire more violence. Would you want your children to see a beheaded body hanging at the Mall?
Nice to assume this isn't real but yes, the image is forced upon people and that's wrong in so many ways.

If you don't want to see it, don't look.

When a government gives you food, excercise equipment, cable tv, more rights than the victims, etc., it certainly does not discourage crime. Perhaps harsher punishment will make a potential criminal think first.

Personally I am against capitol punishment, but when a child is involved - hand me the axe. I'll chop his sick, perverted head off.

I think this is the right message but the wrong subject and context.

I agree it is barbaric - however, it's hard not to feel it is a fitting end. I would actually add a few more steps into it to increase his suffering.

Perhaps a better illustration of the relative barbarism of the Sharia/Islam system would be stoning for adultery or being whipped for wearing trousers as a female...

Capital punishment was fitting, but the whole "putting his body on a crucifix" thing was unnecessary. I don't think capital punishment deters criminals, not like spending the rest of his life in a maximum security prison where inmates would almost certainly kill him if they knew what he was in there for. Why don't the Saudis act like the Iranians toward homosexuals and just string them up in the streets?

I had an idea for an excellent form of punishment for the modern age.

For particularly heinous crimes like child abuse, rape, etc, put the perp in a cell with minimal comfort for the duration of the sentence. Wire up a webcam and hook it to a website. People can then log onto the website and remotely administer a fairly painful electric shock, for a fee of say £1 (maybe you could pay more for higher currents).

Everyone wins - more money for the prison system, the public gets a release for all their anger and frustration, and the punishment fits the crime. Good deterrent.

Crucifixion belongs in the dark ages. But that said, beheading is said to be one of the most humane ways of killing someone.

Can't wait to see all you big talkers having to carry out an execution like the one in Saudi.

Lets not stay on topic here... Yes, lets turn this into a homosexual agenda so we can all feel sorry for the little child rapist. I knew that was the goal of the gay community all along. Saudi has baby rapers and they fix it with beheading. Do we want this kind of behavior to spread around the globe? Because that's Saudi's plan, to instill Sharia Law on the whole planet.
No, instead the West is smarter and more efficient. We have a justice system, that could probably use some improvement, but we have a justice system and we don't practive barbarianism.
