I'm wishing that some very clever ATS folk will be able to coin names for future planets that will be eventually colonized...probably well beyond our
lifetimes...
Was thinking of how the Continents of Earth were named, as they were 'discovered'...and then how the Solar System's planets were named (mostly
after Greek mythic heroes)....
What is next???
Normally, one would expect that a new planetary system would have the Human nomenclature of the host Star's name....as in...."Sirius Five" or some
such....IF the fifth planet that was orbiting a star we call "Sirius" was habitable by Humans, that is...
By this manner of convention, what we live on (Earth) would be called "Sol Three"...
'Mars' would be "Sol Four", and so on.
BUT....we call earth "Earth"....because we did not know, ages ago, that it was just the third planet of others that orbited our star (the
'Sun').
HOW would any other species define their 'home' planet...??
(Of course, they won't be speaking English...or Spanish..or any OTHER human language...so tis becomes moot in a sense...)
Can you tell that I'm writing something, and am shamelessly looking to ATS for help???
