UK police - £ 9m scheme to log "Domestic Extremists"

www.guardian.co.uk

"Senior officers say domestic extremism, a term coined by police that has no legal basis, can include activists suspected of minor public order offences such as peaceful direct action and civil disobedience."
"One man, who has no criminal record, was stopped more than 25 times in less than three years after a "protest" marker was placed against his car after he attended a small protest against duck and pheasant shooting"

This is more evidence that in the UK we are living in a police state.
Peaceful protest will get you labelled as an "extremist" - put under strict surveillance and your vehicle tracked.

Please note - the article states that there is NO legal basis for the label of "domestic Extremist" ........
but it seems that in commiting peaceful protest - you are commiting a thought crime - civil disobedience.

As far as I can see this country is now in the hands of paranoid psychopaths - with an army of goons at their disposal - funded by our tax money.

That just means, if your male and you do not fancy females, your going to be watched, by right perves in the police, that will film you in your home, and take video of your little nephews and nieces taking baths.

The police probably have so many paedos, in there ranks, so they can watch little kiddies in there homes, taking baths.

I am being serious, about the fact if you do not fancy females as a male, you can be watched all your life in uk. The police are absolutely of there rockers, they believe anything made up about people to destroy lifes.

This stuff is not new, its been going on for years.

I remember watching a programme a while back (BBC or Ch4, I forget) looking at "Surveillance Britain" and one of the subjects that came up was the police / government collecting of data on protestors.
This included an interview with the government data registrar, who admitted that the use of ANPR and other means to run surveillance on peaceful protestors was not only outside of his brief, but also out of his departments budget.
The interviewer then had a meeting with Jacqui Smith and asked her a question about data protection, and the use of ANPR and other methods being used to track and harass innocent people. Her answer - that is handled by the data registrar! When informed that the data registrar had already answered that the home office is supposed to be responsible, she just went into arse covering waffle mode.

Truth is, nobody is looking after the data and how it is used. From what we are seeing it is being used to harass and persecute innocent people who have exercised their right to protest government action. More worrying though is the action of senior police officers in backing this data use, although not surprising given the political aspirations and hopes for a knighthood many senior officers hanker after!

They need to get back to basic policing, catching criminals, not being used as government muscle to enforce policy and to terrorise dissenters.

How sad that you live in a country that "allows" the people to peacefully protest.... At the expense of years of harassment, if you actually do. I am sure the UK is not alone in that.

It just seems like the "natural progression"/"evolution" of government, that it will progressively step more and more into the peoples' homes and lives, more paranoid of the people they are paid to represent, every day.

Its is not natural progression as you put it of Government. It is a Government who is trying to implement as much legisltion as it can, to erode us the citizens freedoms before they are royally kicked out off office in the next general election.

As a result of this, when the next Government takes over, our lifes are not going to be any better, they are going to be worse than it was say 12 years ago. The UK Became a police state When Blair became the Prime Minister.

And no one or no political party can erode what this Authortarian Government has imposed on us all in the UK.

Agree fully, apart from the above.

It can be changed, but first we need to change the system and get rid of all the existing career politicians, politicized senior police officers and the old boy network of senior civil servants and power brokers. Only then can we start to take back our lives and our country from the globalist traitors.

So you are saying that the police in the UK will harass and spy on a gay man's family?...Because he is gay???

You got me really disturbed, and curious...

What you say almost sounds like what happens in the US.

You get stuck with one majority party running the country and eroding rights and privacy... All the while, another party promises that if elected and put in power, they will reverse the damage done by the other party... But they only continue down the same path as the last people in power....

Not being funny... I am wondering if that is how it works in the UK as well?? Just seems like the parties all have the same objectives, although they promise to be better than the others...

About the "natural evolution" of a government.... It seems as though as time goes on, Governments will ALL want to take more control over the people.

ANYWAY, to stay on topic, it seems as though any remaining privacy that the UK citizens might have, is under attack by the people paid to represent them...

Well Instead of representing the voters whom elect them into office, they become the state, we the voters become the subjects, which should be The voters first themselves 2nd. They forget after the first couple of years why they were voted into office in the first place.

I do not class that as natural progression of Government, I class it as too Power Grabbing Mongrels, who are there for themselves and no one else.

I have not seen evidence where the police state spies on homosexuals

It does not fit into their (inportant to the agenda) political corectness

I read this earlier

[url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1222861/Pensioner-complained-gay-pride-march-warned-police-hate-crime.html?ITO=1490&referrer=yahoo]LINK[/ url]
Where religious objection to a gay march landed a grandmother with heavy handed police treatment for "hate crimes"

We have come full circle in this country in the last few years

But probably by writing blogs / forum posts which go against the system - makes us all "domestic extremists" - thought crime -
