What was true for the black swan, is true for becoming obese on a calorie strict diet. With a thyroid condition, you can eat a diet soy shake for breakfast ,lunch, and dinner. You can walk for two hours, and the next day two extra pounds will greet you.

Yes this is true of so many people. There's no point in shouting it to the skies because most people on this planet will have to experience the frustrations first hand to believe that weight can be gained without taking in more calories than being burned.

See my other posts for a clue. I have even suggested a great book by the name of The Thyroid Diet. Read it. If you do not understand the power of the thyroid, it will help you more than I can.

Think about bloating. Think about the resting metabolic rate. When the thyroid is not working the body shuts down all sorts of major functions such as the immune system , the digestive system, the flow of hormones and the brain also functions at half its normal capacity. Yes,I was exercising ,but so many vital bodily functions had been shut I would have needed to eat like a five year old to lose some weight. If I had done such I would have eventually died from a lack of key nutrients. I probably also would not have lost that much weight.
You can probably order the book on EBAY or Amazon.com you can look up the author on the web. Her name is Mary Shoman ;she has websight dealing with the thyroid.

Thyroid diseases or blocks are more insidious than your post implies. The makers of healthy diet shakes had tried to put enough nutrients in their shakes so costomers would not die of heart attacks. I could not eat less and have all nutrients needed to function. Even so ,I was incredibly tired and foggy headed all the time.It was not a matter of cutting back which resulted in weight loss for me. I eat a little more now than I did when I was fat. What finally helped me was cutting out all the foods which do not help the thyroid. I now only eat foods which help the thyroid. I also took up weight lifting in addition to the aerobic exercise I was already doing.
