Internet game that awards points for people spotting real crimes on CCTV is branded 'snooper's paradise'

A new internet game is about to be launched which allows 'super snooper' players to plug into the nation's CCTV cameras and report on members of the public committing crimes. The 'Internet Eyes' service involves players scouring thousands of CCTV cameras installed in shops, businesses and town centres across Britain looking for law-breakers. Players who help catch the most criminals each month will win cash prizes up to £1,000.

And they made it into a game

It is something which should be nipped in the bud immediately. It will not only encourage a dangerous spying mentality by turning crime into a game but also could lead to dangerous civil rights abuses.

Well, discussion boards get old and people are always looking for new games. Especially one that pays. Where would we most likely find you out and about in town?

As if it's not already bad enough with 'professional 'snoopers, we're now going to have every sad idiot with time on there hands monitoring us, with a view to winning a prize !

Seems like a good way to keep people in check. Ahh you know what if you cant beat them join them.

This is a privatised Stasi tactic. Does anyone still remember the Cold War and how those 'evil' commies did this sort of thing to their own people? Has the EU banished the evils of the Soviet Bloc or has it now adopted, or at least encouraged those policies?

Internet eyes will be a hit. There are a lot of folks in need of financial aid lately. Who knows, IE will probably change its price to warm food instead. Most folks will betray his fellow man just to fill his belly.

Crowdsourcing CCTV by turning data sifting into a video game is extremely smart – how else could thousands of hours of video be examined without spending a fortune? It’s like SETI@home with a payout.
