Where to begin, I suppose at love. Most call it 'an great attraction to another being or thing' but those who have felt it know that it is stronger than that. But, what is love? How great is it supposed to be? A mother lions love and care astounds scientists and yet, is there not greater love? The love between husband and wife maybe? Judging by the number of divorces on average I would say no. How about a soulmate? Now this is where it gets tricky.
A soulmate is a person who you can have a great bond with, probably stronger than any other. But then, you get to twin flame, the 'highest level' some might argue. Here's one question, what's the difference between a soulmate and a twin flame? If soulmates are so great how can you get any higher? Also, doesn't 'soulmate' imply that the two souls are mates. Would it not make sense then that that is true love, pure love, a love that can be cherished always? Here's another thing, how much has word(s) 'twin flame' affected society, none. Soulmate(s)? A whole bunch. How many people have even heard of someone who has undoubtedly found there twin flame(gods don't count this should apply to everyone)?
Say there is a great difference between the two and that twin flames exist, how do you know when you've met your twin flame and not just some pesky soulmate? These are the questions I present hoping someone can answer them or will at least think about it.

Soul is memory, our civilization is marked by much pain. At an individualistic level we all resonate our share of this pain, so a soul mate is someone who will trigger these areas of painful unvalidated soul memories(our demons). My experiences with soul mates have been surreal, some ending in violence.

As for twin flames, I have seen some, they actually look alike and there is a perfect balance of energy and power between them. Spirited and respectful, they blend in everywhere. I am seeing more and more twin flames getting together...phenomenal

How do you know?

Well i would say perhaps when you find a person whom after being together for a good while (say 2 years), and the "fire" does not go away for either and you both think you could never be any happier with anyone else than you are with your partner.

In Jungian psychology, the feminine aspect of the unconscious is referred to as the anima, the masculine the animusand a soul mate or twin flame is simply the simultaneous projection or recognition of the anima/animus in another person. It is an effort by the unconscious to make itself available for conscious integration.

In the words of M.-L. von Franz, in Jung's "Man and His Symbols":

"It is the presence of the anima that causes the man to fall suddenly in love when he sees a woman for the first time and knows at once that this is "she". In this situation, the man feels as if he has known this woman intimately for all time; he falls for her so helplessly that it looks to outsiders like complete madness. Women who are of "fairy-like" character especially attract such anima projections, because men can attribute almost anything to a creature who is so fascinatingly vague, and can thus proceed to weave fantasies around her" (191).

This ties into the popular concept of the feminine mystique, the myth of their eternal mystery, their "fascinatingly vague" thought process, etc.. The whole idea that women are just impossible to understand is absurd, but it feeds into the psychological mechanism that is a component of "love".

WOW! I have never heard of anyone mentioning twin flames before
I have always considered my ex, John, my twin flame. As silly as it sounds he really is. We have always been friends even after he basically ripped my heart out and stepped all over it. He is the only person on the planet who gets me and understands me. He has NEVER put me down or been negative towards me. If I have a problem I know I can count on him anytime and he will be there. He is now married and has a family but he is still there for me. Its really weird and odd to most people how our relationship is but to me it isnt. He is my twin flame
He is like a soul mate but not. We were great together but for whatever reason we werent meant to be and yet he is still in my life and I am very happy for that.

As for soul mates well I am a sap and believe in them fully. I have a bf but I am not sure if he is my soul mate. Its hard to explain.....I love him and I could see myself being with him for life but I dont know if he is my soul mate. He is a wonderful guy but some things just arent right for me, but I am ok with that. They arent bad things in any way. I guess he just doesnt really get me and honestly I am the easiest girl to date
I just seem to get the wrong ones....

I have always been a romantic and believed in soul mates and "the one" but being 30 and never married makes me wonder anymore. I believe MSM has made marriage a joke IMO. Reality shows about marriage and crap like that sure hasnt helped any. I personally think people take marriage and soul mates as a joke any more and for those of us like ME who believe in this stuff it makes it hard to find a solid decent relationship that will last. I want to have someone the rest of my life to wake up next to and be there for no matter what. I am very old fashioned and I dont think thats a bad thing but for whatever reason guys I meet dont seem to like it...WHY?!?!?!?

Ok I wont vent here.....Anyways....This is just my feelings towards the two. I may be a little bitter right now but I honestly believe my soul mate is out there somewhere. I have already found my twin flame and I am very happy with that. He is a wonderful friend and I believe there is a reason he is in my life even 8 years after our relationship ended. I swear he is the only person who really knows the real me and he doesnt judge me. I know this all may sound nuts to some but I have read about twin flames and soul mates many times and I joke with him about it as well. He laughs and says we were soul mates in a past life and now we are just meant to be great friends or twin flames...

So would you say that a soulmate is better than a twin flame or the other way around?
