US President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize less than one year after he took office.
He was honoured "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," the head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee Thorbjoern Jagland said.
According to Reuters, it was Obama's calls to reduce the world's stockpile of nuclear weapons and working for world peace, that won him the award.
The prize worth 10 million Swedish crowns will be handed over in Oslo on December 10.
