HAVANA — Cuba is ready to use just about everything at its disposal, from its well-oiled civil defense system to the soldiers of a totalitarian government, to keep H1N1 flu cases to a minimum.

Everything but a vaccine.

As the U.S. prepares an extensive health survey for side affects from its massive inoculation plans, Cuba's No. 2 health official says relying on a shot to contain a world pandemic is risky as best — and demoralizing at worst.

"Nobody knows if it would work," Dr. Luis Estruch told The Associated Press in an interview. "How safe would it be?" Source

Do Cuba know something we don't, only time will tell I suppose. It will be intresting to see the reaction of other countries.

What stands out in the article is this

"If we had confidence in a vaccine, we would get it," Estruch said. "Immediately."

Oh and this

H1N1 flu plans for the new season involve all ministries, including the armed forces. If necessary, the government will isolate neighborhoods or entire villages, shut down highways and dispatch medical teams to communities affected by H1N1 flu, Estruch said

Thanks

So the following indicates they're taking better care?

Let me rephrase that using the vernacular many in the US and others use:
they are planning on using the military to isolate (quarantine?) neighborhoods or entire cities.

And how many SHTF threads on here are warning about similar plans for military operations in cities in the US? Somehow Cuba doing this is better than the US doing the same?

Where's the "facepalm" emoticon when you need it?

I believe there was a misquote up there, .... instead of : " If we had confidence in the vaccine" it should be " If we had money for the vaccine"

Were talking about a country that can't even buy cars. and they have it better because they dont think their people are worth the time and money to create a vaccine ???

Most Americans do not trust the vaccine. Cuba is still in the dog house for confiscating foriegn owned bussinesses. I'm sure big pharma would just be too happy to send Cuba an extra special batch of the H1N1 vaccine.

Or they will just cure it with Crack and Cigars, at least the side effects won't be as bad as the vaccine.
