US paid reward to Lockerbie witness, Abdelbaset al-Megrahi papers claim

www.guardian.co.uk

Two key figures in the conviction of the Lockerbie bomber were secretly given rewards of up to $3m (£1.9m) in a deal discussed by Scottish detectives and the US government, according to legal papers released today.

The claims about the payments were revealed in a dossier of evidence that was intended to be used in an appeal by Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, the Libyan convicted of murdering 270 people in the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 in 1988.

Wow, this has pretty staggering implications that to me show the CIA were indeed involved somewhere with the Lockerbie bombing. That's an insane amount of money by most people's standards, especially so to someone who earns less than those in the "West" - remember the witness had also seen photographs of the alleged bomber before picking him out of a lineup... couple that with the money incentive and he's hardly going to refuse.

The question is why? The whole case stinks to high-heaven, from a global political standpoint right through to CIA drug smuggling (heroin). It's amazing (or not so) that there isn't more media coverage of this, I'll include some relevant links at the bottom for those not aware of how far this conspiracy goes... what do you fellow ATSers make of it all?

Word is that the explosive device was a CIA device. Not a copy of a CIA device, the real McCoy. Not too hard to figure out, eh?

You know I'm somewhat surprised that nobody here on ATS has something to say - after all this could be considered a blueprint for 9/11 as they both share many parallels.

Will we have another in 5 years time when memories fade and things are brushed under carpets?
