When the controversy hits close to home

I heard on the news today that a girl living here in Oxford, Ohio died today from swine-flu complications. Kimi Young was a 22 year old that had graduated from Miami University last December.

Given the current job market, she made her living working in a local coffee shop. She was young, energetic, friendly, attractive and had what would seem to be a lifetime ahead of her. About a week ago she had contracted swine-flu, pneumonia set in and now she has died.

Oxford is a small town of about 10,000 or so locals and about 15,000 college students that come in from all over not only the US but the rest of the world as well. As a broad minded individual, I find it fortunate to be able to speak with and befriend people of different backgrounds, cultures and upbringings. That allows me to say with confidence that people are people. We all want to be happy and healthy within our lives and make something of the world around us.

Some have said that the swine-flu is a means of depopulation. Control. Loss of self-sovereignty. Were I to be paranoid and narcissistically self-centered in a delusion, I would say it was to remove the undesirably aware. Much like trying to kill a fly with an atom bomb. You see, because the last report I heard (about 3 weeks) said there were 100 confirmed cases of swine-flu at Miami University. But even those numbers may not be accurate. Miami, like most colleges, does not like negative attention. They have been shipping out students that are confirmed to have swine-flu. The 100 that was last reported may have been only the ones that had not been removed.

Two weeks ago, I caught a cold. Coughing, sneezing, slight fever and fatigue. Appetite was sporadic, but I am known for only eating once or twice a day at most anyway. The symptoms lasted about 3-4 days, but two weeks later I still have a persistent dry coughing fits and the past two days I have developed a sharp pain in the lower back like a pulled muscle from the coughing.

My family and I had it early this summer. Stay hydrated. Rest. We watched about 5 behjillion videos, (ironically the exact number as our deficit) and got better.

See a doc if it gets worse though, don't wait.

An interesting update:

They are now claiming that she died of Viral Pneumonia, which is odd since they originally said death was due to complications of pneumonia after having swine-flu.

Oh, and they have reported that another Miami University student has died of swine-flu. I wonder if that will become retracted as well.

Oxford is definitely becoming interesting. And yes, my back still hurts as my right hip now. I am leaning more towards a pinched nerve. Nothing like shooting pain to stiffle a cough, sneeze or even a fart...
