Iran hit with new demand as U.N. meets

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United States and other major powers on Wednesday told Iran to prepare a "serious response" by October 1 to demands it halt its nuclear program or risk the consequences.


"We expect a serious response from Iran and will decide, in the context of our dual track approach, as a result of the meeting, on our next steps," British Foreign Minister David Miliband said, reading a statement agreed by Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States.

good find, I didn't see anything that was officially ratified as a decision, or resolution? I'd like more info, or to hear this actually come from the mouth's of Chinese, and Russian officials.

What are sanctions going to do? Do they not think Iran has already planned for whatever sanctions the West could possibly throw at them? Come on! Sanctions haven't stopped NK and they sure won't stop Iran.

War is on the horizon!

Might be too early to read too much into that. It is only Milliband after all. It may be those nations were in attendance at the UN , not necessarily signatories of such a decree. Milliband is prone to opening his mouth with bellicose rhetoric that has no substantiation.

Iran nuclear plant: Miliband refuses to rule out military action

David Miliband today refused to rule out the prospect of military action against Iran over its nuclear ambitions but insisted the international focus was on a diplomatic solution after Tehran's admission it is building a secret uranium enrichment plant.

The foreign secretary's comments were followed this afternoon by reports from semi-official state media that Iran's Revolutionary Guard will stage missile defence simulation exercises tomorrow – a move sure to be seen as provocative to the west with mounting tension over the nuclear issue.
