Dear Concerned American,

The great pay-back has begun, and it's going to be ugly.

The gun grabbers in Congress are paying back the anti-gun extremists who put them and Barack Obama in office.

Hi, this is Congressman Paul Broun from Georgia. I wish I had better news, but you and I are facing an assault on our gun rights like we've never seen before.

You see, H.R. 45 is Barack Obama's gun control package, and it includes the most vile anti-gun measures he's supported over the years.

It's only the first step...

...but it's a HUGE step.

H.R. 45 establishes a NATIONAL gun registry database of every gun and its owner -- for the whole county! Your private information and every gun you own would be in the system.

But that's only if you succeed in buying a gun in the first place!

And since H.R. 45 dramatically increases requirements for firearms purchases far beyond those ever proposed, you just might find youself incapable of buying a firearm once this bill takes effect.

And it gets worse too.

The National Association for Gun Rights has a survey ready for you to complete, but I want you to understand just how dangerous this bill is before I give you the link. Please bear with me for a moment.

You see, H.R. 45 would establish a national gun registry database which would:

* Increase requirements for firearms purchases, far beyond those ever proposed.

* Create a national firearms registry overseen by the Federal Government.

* Invoke Draconian penalties for bookkeeping errors related to the Federal Firearms Database.

It gets worse though.

Sarah Brady and her allies in Congress want to force you to take a written exam to prove that you are "fit" to exercise your Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms.

I'm outraged by this, and I know you are too.


I'm sure I don't have to tell you that gun registration has historically laid the groundwork for total firearm confiscation. Citizen disarmament is the watchword of tyrants everywhere.

In fact, the most brutal dictators of the last century were famous for their gun registration and confiscation schemes.

But H.R. 45, Obama's National Gun Registry and Citizen Disarmament Act, is more than just a forced registration of all firearms in America.

The bill also makes it increasingly difficult to buy a gun in the first place.


Taken right out of Sarah Brady's Christmas wish list, H.R. 45 includes a laundry list of new restrictions on firearms purchases.

In addition to the outrageous national gun registration requirement, H.R. 45 also requires you to:

* Pass a written examination to purchase a firearm.

* Release your medical records -- including confidential mental health records -- to the government to get your "fitness" to own a firearm approved.

* Observe a two-day waiting period before all firearms purchases.

* Pay a gun tax of $25 or more on all firearm purchases.

Moreover, H.R. 45 bans all private firearms sales and maximizes penalties for minor clerical errors in dealing with the national gun registry.

The list goes on and on. It's enough to turn your stomach.

I know I don't have to tell you, but these restrictions make a mockery of the Constitution. "The Right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" might as well say: "You have no rights."

If a two-day waiting period, a written exam and a gun tax aren't infringing our rights, I don't know what is!


Even the Supreme Court's recent Heller decision guaranteeing an individual's right to own a firearm doesn't hamper Barack Obama's agenda one bit.

In fact, it emboldens gun grabbers to pass legislation taxing ammunition, increasing registration requirements, and drastically limiting when, how and where you can use your firearm.

That's why I've decided to stand with the National Association for Gun Rights fight back against this radical scheme. They're fully committed to stopping the efforts of the gun grabbers, but they need the help of grassroots gun owners like you.

With liberals calling the shots in Washington, all supporters of the Second Amendment must join together, draw a line in the sand, and fight this battle to the end.

We must make this gun-grab expensive and politically painful for the enemies of freedom. If we do, they'll flinch ... and LOSE.

By mobilizing hundreds of thousands of grassroots gun owners across the country, the National Association for Gun Rights can put anti-gun politicians on the hot seat.

In my opinion, based on a quick read of the bill, this has zero chance of passing. The main thing that got me was that they are trying to make it illegal to:
1) Allow ANY person under the age of 18 access to a firearm
2) Make it illegal to POSSESS a firearm if you do not have a license.

shocking ... purely shocking. But to be fair it doesnt look like this bill has many backers. However the fact that this legislation even appeared is mesmerizing. Do they really believe this will stop gun violence? no they dont. They only want you to be a giant red marker on a map on the way to collecting your guns

Every time someone brings up the Blair Holt act, I want to put my fist through a wall.

This is a forgotten bil, one that was very well known when it was introduced.

Subsequently it is dieing in subcomittee with no attention since February.

This was a threat when it came out but it no longer is.

That is unless you have any evidence on recent action regarding it.

If you do then please present.

This same bill also died previously in 2007..

When it comes to gun issues, please research EVERYTHING.

Because I fully support the right to bear arms (I think citizens should allowed to freely buy machine guns fyi)

Gun lobbyists are also very misleading at times, as well as their opponents are.

Indeed, I should have checked that myself since I was right there on the page. It did indeed die in comittee. Last congressional action was n Feb 2009.

NP. Sorry if it seems as if I over re-acted.. but this bill has been posted, over and over and over and over,ect on ATS.

Although it frustrates me even more that the moron politicians want to regulate my rights.

The pro-gun lobby does a lot of good things, and in this day and age, they must exist.. But they write a lot of misleading articles.

While the bill has zero cosponsors and was referred to a sub committee back in February it does raise a couple of concerns:

1. Who really wrote this bill?
-This is a huge bill with a lot of complicated back and forth referencing to other legislation. Congress people and Senators are very busy (hookers, drugs, porn and bribes take up a lot of time). They can't even read the bills they do pass so I don't believe for a second a legislator actually wrote this one. Most of our laws are written by lobbyists and corporate attorneys. What we really need is a law that requires the true author of proposed new laws to be disclosed.

2. Don't relax just because the bill has no co sponsors and is in committee right now. This complex ton of crap wasn't generated for no reason. These are the kind of laws they keep in the drawer to pass in a big hurry after some huge event takes place (like 911 and the Patriot Act). It's also a great way to take entire chunks out of this and sneak them into other, unrelated legislation.

Hey, it's a free country and these clowns can write up any law they feel like and submit it for consideration. That's how the system works. The level of trust you have in our legislators should be the direct opposite of the amount of attention we pay to their shenanigans.

Zero trust means full attention. We should all also demand reform in the legislative process. No more instant laws or additions to laws without a period of public review and reaction. No more bad laws in the drawer either. If it can't gain a single co sponsor then it should be sent to a new category - "laws we won't consider for at least one year". Also no more ghost writers for legislation. It should be a federal offense for any bill to be submitted which has been written by anyone other than an elected representative.

To hell with them and their evil games. I don't care which party you choose to be enslaved by, these things do nothing positive for any of us.

1. I forget who, but it was essentially the same bill that was written and considered in 2007. Rush just put it back in.

2. You're right. But with that idea, there is no real defense against it. Because it can be put in consideration, voted on, ect.

The best defense is to call, email, mail, or meet with your congressman, let him know that: You want him to vote no on any bill that limits the right to keep and bear arms. And that if he does, you will campaign against him to make sure he does not have another term.
