There are reports that Israel was involved in the mysterious disappearance of a Russian cargo ship last month, which disappeared during its trip from Finland to Algeria.

The Russian government then announced that the ship, with its cargo of timber, had been hijacked and that the Russian navy had rescued the crew. Now, one senior Israeli figure close to the intelligence services has told the BBC that the Arctic Sea was in fact carrying an advanced Russian air defense system bound for Iran.

Israel had previously launched an international campaign against the potential sale. Netanyahu asked his counterparts in the United States, Britain, Italy, Germany, France and other countries to pressure Russia not to go ahead with the deal. Netanyahu also called Putin at the end of June to ask him to stop the deal. The Russians, however, did not do so.

A few days later, Medvedev told Israel he wanted to hold secret talks on the matter of the missiles, which began recently between the defense ministries of the two countries. However, Netanyahu's visit was apparently intended to exert heavier pressure on the Russians to cancel the deal.

Israel tries diplomacy and if that fails, it has no problem whatsoever violating international law and hijacking ships to get its way!
