I know that the Russian Soyuz-TMA is smaller vehicle but the launch seems a lot cleaner than the shuttle.



On the other hand I'd like to know who pays the carbon tax on this:
(Well, it's a rhetorical question, really. There is no such thing as carbon tax...yet.)

Most of the cloud from the shuttle launches is water vapor produced by the main engines. The SRB's do produce some nasty stuff but not a whole lot and are necessary to lift the shuttle (but not for much longer)

The Russians burn kerosene.
