'Massive' ancient wall uncovered in Jerusalem

www.cnn.com

An archaeological dig in Jerusalem has turned up a 3,700-year-old wall that is the largest and oldest of its kind found in the region, experts say.

Standing 8 meters (26 feet) high, the wall of huge cut stones is a marvel to archaeologists.

"To build straight walls up 8 meters ... I don't know how to do it today without mechanical equipment," said the excavation's director, Ronny Reich. "I don't think that any engineer today without electrical power [could] do it."

Wow, even more massive stone type ancient evidence of a smart civilization from the far past.

Who do you think built all these megalith type structures so long ago? Was it Annunaki, Atlanteans or something more easily explainable.

IMO a civilization existed a very long time ago that doesn't get half the credit it should because of the time involved which has deteriorated most evidence of their existence besides stone.

Try reading the books of enoch and other Biblical apocrypha, they speak of that which happened pre christ.

There was a great civilization tens of thousands of years ago. Then they elected a leader who was partial to socialist ideology with only the interests of the corporate elite in mind. Most moved out of the solar system to create a society based on achievement and merit for a better standard of living!

Some days I think it was us and we're on a Möbius strip.

Year after year, running over the same old ground. And what have we found? The same old fears.

HAHA... who'd they get to do their work for them!

So many flaws in Ayn Rands theories... don't forget, she was Greenspans mentor!

Well, I find it hilarious actually that you picked Ayn Rand out of this quotation and not that he believes an alien race moved to a different galaxy or some other crap.
Alan Greenspan was in Ayn's inner circle, and it appears he became an individualist...turned out pretty well for him. He can't help that Washington is dumb enough to have a Federal Reserve system or that they are dumb enough to pass legislation to make banks lend in a "NINJA" basis...no income, no job or assets. Brilliant. Ayn really got it wrong, which is why Alan Greenspan is rich? Ayn's ideology doesn't revolve around compassion but desire...who will do the work? Who ever didn't work hard enough to achieve otherwise, to say "I'm not going to be your slave!" and move up in the world...whoever settles for less, gets what they settle for, or if that's what they desire in life, then that's what they get. Stop playing Bioshock and reading from its script, which ironically has some of your very thoughts in near quotes....funny.

I agree, but it still doesn't mean they lacked electricity.

Ayn Rand was about Will to Power... if you believe that money makes you happy than thats fine.

I prefer Will to Meaning.

It to doesn't sound like you've ever even read Ayn Rand, just what someone else has said about her works and ideas...because you're mis-characterizing them left and right.

I just want to say, back on topic, that while this discovery is neat I'm not all that impressed nor is it remotely evidence of an "advanced ancient civilization". Chances are good that it's simply Canaanite and there are structures that are contemporary or older than this wall that are much more impressive and show a higher level of craftsmanship.

Saying things like "I don't see how anyone could build this without modern equipment" only shows a lack of imagination and creativity as well as a poor understanding of ancient construction capabilities.

Yeah I very much agree with that. It's almost as if wooden scaffolding is beyond people's imaginations

Look... I have read quite a bit of Ayn Rand.

She is about will to power... that is the goal of rugged individualism.

There is a huge difference between that and Will to Meaning.

See her brand of individualism disconnects her from any social obligation, including her own marriage. She ran around on her husband, and thought that was her right.

If you want to follow her... go right ahead.... I've read enough to discover she is a whiny little female dog, with no inclination towards the feelings of others.

Ayn Rand is to the Golden Rule what Hitler was to Racial tolerance.

She is not an Emerson. By any stretch of the Imagination.

Exactly, I'm honestly tired of hearing it, it's the requisite response for any new finding. It's especially stupid when you consider the age of the wall is only about 3,500 years old which isn't nearly as old as some things in Egypt and Mesopotamia and in many cases is of inferior quality to contemporary construction.

Her belief does not revolve around a monetary system of gains or power, only self fulfillment, pride in one's labor and individualism...so no I don't think you know what you're talking about, nor do you think you've actually read her materials...and as far as her running around on her husband, this is true, however she did it with his permission during her writings of Atlas Shrugged; read that again, she never did anything behind her husbands back. So, once again, you mischaracterize her...I don't agree with all of her principals but you could at least not mischaracterize someone's core beliefs...and attack her baselessly in a thread which had nothing to do with Ayn Rand, and in which no one even mentioned Ayn Rand before you. It seems you just have a bone to pick and have an itchy trigger finger, which sounds like a personal problem that no one here wants to be subjected to, especially in a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with Ayn Rand.

the dots don't connect between "socialist idealogy" and "interests of corporate elite"....opposite sides of the spectrum.

as everyone here should know, corporations were set up because wealthy people who were stupid with their own money, and lost it, formed corporations. they were able to spread and thus lessen the losses from their businesses, through the selling of "shares" in their companies. while at the same time, when the business was doing well, the majority of the profits went to the wealthy owners. after hundreds of years of fine tuning, we have the corporate world of today. too bad these "economic classes" are only taught in elite universities and colleges, and not high school.
