Ill. sales taxes on candy, soft drinks up Tuesday

Bottled soft drinks with added sweetener or flavoring, such as iced tea, will be taxed more, just like soda pop is now. And liquor distributors will pay more for alcohol. That cost invariably will be passed on to consumers. All told, the changes should raise about $150 million a year toward a $30 billion roads-and-schools building plan. The program also includes hundreds of millions of dollars for local pet projects of lawmakers. Gov. Pat Quinn also approved hikes in the cost of driver's licenses and plates and OK'd video poker in places such as taverns to increase revenue -- scheduled to bring in $600 million more annually -- to pay for what officeholders said was a long-overdue plan to put people to work and improve the state's infrastructure.

One ahole Governor is kicked out of office another takes over.

Well the taxing in this country is getting OUT OF HAND! What is next? Air?! People cant afford their homes and cars right now, soon nobody will be able to eat since they will tax that more as well....

I live in FL and they just increased all driver license fees by 100% or MORE. I will now have to pay an insane amount in Nov to renew my tag and I am NOT happy about it.

All this over taxing needs to stop!

Companies are increasing their "fees" too. My cellphone bill went up by $6 two months ago because of new fees.

I live in FL and the wonderful FPL(Florida Power Light) has increased their rates as well!! When people live on a budget its hard to survive when everything is going up! My sisters electric bill went from 150 to over 200 because of their increase. The usage amount was about the same! I know ATT increased rates as well...

Dont kid yourself it DOESNT go to the children! I worked in the school system and so does my mother. They get NOTHING. My mother buys most of the supplies for her class because of cuts backs...So if it is going to the children then why does my mother and the rest of the teachers she works with have to pay out of pocket for supplies that were given to students when I was in school?! Many of my friends school supply list doubled and cost them over 100 bucks! Why are parents buying supplies for art and science class? Why are parents required to buy snacks for the class??? If money is going to these kids then where is it? Why are teachers being laid off?? So please SHOW me where this money is going because its NOT to the kids!
As far as roads...yeah not there either! I have seen construction on I-10 in Jacksonville all the way to AL for the last year and NOBODY is ever working on them. I drive once a month to AL and its always the same...so if this money is going to roads like you say then why arent these roads done?? Another section where I live on 95 has been under construction for 4 YEARS! All they are doing is widening it and yet again nobody is ever out there working on it. Trust me people who travel these roads daily are getting very tired of it.

This is the first wave of the Hyper-Inflationary process! Things like Power and Taxes go up, then everything you buy goes up! Except wages that is!

I really hoped the Soft Drink tax would spur the newest Tea Party!!

I can see Pepsi and Coke trucks stolen in mass and driven off into the Great Lakes!! One can only dream!

Food stamp recipients don't pay sales tax!

The rich get poorer (and fitter) and the poor get fatter.

Nice!

WOW, I just hope you're joking... if not, you need help ASAP.

I think you forgot about all the bailouts while we pay more taxes.

Yeah... the poor pay more taxes on everyday items while the rich and corporate get bailed out with FED funny money.

And while all that is happening, AIG makes enough money to pay off 10,000 foreclosures a day and instead pays off a few key executives a nice bonus to buy a new private jet so they can continue their bi-monthly vacations to Fiji and Malibu.

Oh this pisses me off to no end. Being a resident of Illinois, I can't believe the audacity of these greasy pieces of crap. We are at the breaking point here, and their going to push us even further by doing this to us? I'm barely surviving. They want to justify this by saying that it will create jobs? How in the hell is that going to happen? They're raising licensing fees. People can't afford to buy plates or stickers, how are they going to be able to drive to work? Disgusting greed. If this a*hole would give up 90% of his undeserved, tax-payer provided income, he could pay for some of his pet projects out of his own pocket. In fact, if all of these weasels in office did just that, there'd be no budget deficit.
Getting really sick and tired of this crap. Someone needs to do something about it, because if we don't, they're just going to keep doing it more and more, making it worse for all of us.

A revolt must be done before this gets out of hand. Waiting will only increase the commies (or socialists, or nazis. doesn't matter. they're the same enemies of democracy) and by that time, you have nobody to support you since they're all in by their messiah's side due to the fact that the majority will be poor already.

This is a lot like what makes made third world countries, third world countries.
