MANITOBA'S battered pork industry is bracing for another blow as Manitoba's chief veterinary officer has confirmed that the H1N1 flu virus has spread to several hog herds in the province.Dr. Wayne Lees said the virus was first detected at the end of June and has spread to several herds, including sow barns, nursery barns and feeder barns.
Lees said the virus was spread to hogs by human contact with the animals. That's something that will likely continue as the virus spreads among people, many of whom don't realize they're sick.
