Pretty cool stuff.
Might come in handy here.
It hasn't shown me anything yet though :/

Developers of new web browsing software that flags questionable claims or outright lies on the web hope it will become a valuable tool to deal with the misinformation that litters the Internet.

All fine and dandy ... depending on who determines what is disputed.

What a wonderful way to steer opinion and control the people who can't discern for themselves what the facts are.

Wonderful.
As Roof Monkey said, "who" determines what is false???

You know all things we take for granted today (As in theories) were at one time taken by the powers to be as outright lies.
Archimedes, Aristotle, Copernicus, Newton, Telsa............, need i go on?

What was 'known' to be false then, is 'known' to be true now!!!

Unless the person that wrote this software is some Almighty, Omniscient being (then i would bow down), otherwise, 'I' will decide for my self what is truth and what is lies.

Cheers

No doubt it uses Wiki

And it would need updates, early and often

huh? Did you guys watch the video?
The users determine what is disputed fact, and can add links to support their viewpoint. It's not like erases determined disputes, it only highlights them, then gives you the option of learning about why it's disputed. I'd rather make my decision after considering both points of view as to whether something is true or not. I think it would be a great app if everyone here on ats used it. So often the op will make statement that is disputed or just wrong and you might not even find out because no-ones debunked it till the 5th page of the thread.

I occurs to me that just about every statement on the internet is "disputed".

My question might seem silly but...

Who decides what is true or not?

The makers of the software? The CIA/FBI/NSA/DHS/WH ?

Question everything!

Everyone decides for themselves what is true or not.
But in order to make an informed decision we need to be aware that certain "facts" might actually be fabrications.
I think that is what this software aims to do.
Lets take for example a 9/11 thread.
The OP makes a huge post full of claims one of wich is the hijackers names were nowhere to be found on the flight manifest.
A claim wich i assumed to be true for some time.
Now I could highlight that piece and add a link to external content such as 911research.wtc7.net...
Now whenever someone using the plugin views that thread they will see the words highlighted in red, and instead of taking it at face value, they have a direct link to an alternative viewpoint.
Now that person can make a more informed decision, when deciding what is true or not.

I occurs to me that just about every statement on the internet is "disputed".

I certainly wouldn't dispute that
