Supplying Iran with S-300 Systems
INSS Insight No. 126, August 26, 2009
Magen, Zvi, and Shapir, Yiftah S.

The talks between Iran and Russia over the supply of the S-300 defense
systems were public knowledge already in 1998, but despite various reports
over the years about a contract and the actual supply of the systems, it
seems that the contract was only signed in 2006 and was announced officially

"Two system batteries are even in service in
Greece (thus the system is well known to NATO)."

The significance here is that earlier this summer, the IAF flew over Greece and a mock raid on Iran airspace.

"Russia relates to the export of arms as a political tool, not just an economic end. Russia is currently making great
efforts to upgrade its international standing, including through
demonstrations of assertive foreign policy. In this context, the export of arms is designed to enhance Russian influence in regions where Russia competes for influence, in particular with the United States. Russia's current political and economic weakness is also decidely a factor in these considerations."

It is precisely the weakness combined with needed finances that makes the present situation so dangerous.

When a nation is strong, it can afford to take a hit here and there. But when weak, politically or monetarily, the perceived strike cannot be tolerated. Prediction: the ties with Iran (nuclear and arms) will drag Russia into a catastrophe. But not before the concerned powers have sufficiently weakened the U.S./U.K. to the extent that the advances on the M.East will only bring a weak verbal response from NATO (or former NATO) forces.

It probably won't be long before Israel strikes against Iran

Otherwise with these systems in place it will be harder to attack if they wait

Oh, jeez. The source doesn't say anything about Russia supplying Iran with the S-300 (not that Iran needs it anyway). The Thread title doesn't match the "article" title, and the "article" is from Israel.

The mods need to do something about trolls that continually make up stuff up to support whatever their cause is. And then on top of that, the other pro-Israeli folks jump on it with out even reading the "source" to see that the OP just made everything up.

The mods need to delete this thread and severely penalize the OP as he/she does this frequently.
