The Cross of Nero is EVERYWHERE

I find that the cross of Saint Peter and the Satanic Cross are similar to the inverted Algiz/Elhaz rune/peace symbol:

The Elhaz rune can be found in Ice Age carvings apparently, way before Nero's time. Witchcraft has now gone mainstream with its use as the so called peace sign. The Elhaz rune is commonly used in spells.

There is just a wealth information relating the peace sign with Satanism:

Oh Moses smell the roses!!! That site is so Christian is stinks of it. The Peace Symbol was and is an ancient symbol, but it's original meaning is not relevant to the Peace Movement of the 1960s. The signs you see are fashion statements, fact it, the 60s are coming back in a big way. By the way, the original meaning of the Christian Cross is Pagan in naturewww.thewordsofeternallife.com...

THE PEACE SYMBOL UP THERE IS NOT THE PEACE SYMBOL. I didn't have to do the initiation that contained the broken cross because I was born into Witchcraft & it wasn't necessary, & people who have no Christian background do not have to do it. But if a person raised in a Christian church--whether they were Christian or not--wants to join Witchcraft, they would have to take a ceramic cross & turn it upside-down & break the cross bars down, symbolising their rejection of Calvary & the Christian Church.

Can the originator of this thread please come up with historic sources as to this symbol being used by anyone else than the hippie generation as a symbol initially created to unite people in the fight against the nuclear arms' race?

Appart from the fact that it looks similar to the Catholic "broken cross" as used on robes etc. and the Norse Algir rune (tuned s, with symbolic meaning elk/moose and king), this peace symbol was invented or designed on "21 February 1958 by Gerald Holtom, a professional designer and artist in Britain" according to Wiki (linked below). The symbol is an acronym based on a combination of two letters in the semaphoric (flag signs as used by boyscouts to communicate over distance) alphabet, N (for Nuclear) and D (for Disarmmament).

The peace symbol was designed in 1958 by Gerald Holtom, a commercial artist and a supporter of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND). He based it on the semaphore signs for the letters N and D.

For twelve years, nobody supposed the peace symbol meant anything other than the nuclear disarmament movement or, more generally, peace. Then, in 1970, the extreme right-wing John Birch Society, who thought that even President Eisenhower was a Communist, published an article by David E. Gumaer, saying the peace symbol had Communist, Nazi and Satanic associations. Gumaer's claims have often been repeated. People now state it as a fact that the "real" meaning of the peace symbol is not peace but Satanism, Communism or Nazism. Every such statement can be traced back to Gumaer. But what exactly did Gumaer say?

CLAIM: The peace symbol was in existence before Holtom designed it in 1958.

FACT: It was not. Gumaer's article includes a crude picture of Satan with CND symbols drawn all over it. This is supposed to be a 16th century woodcut but it is not a woodcut at all and was obviously drawn specially for Gumaer's article. Since Gumaer's article, there have been forgeries suggesting that the peace symbol has other nasty associations. One was included in a 1970 book on German Panzer divisions to prove that it was a Nazi symbol. It wasn't that either, but that nonsense is also repeated as if it was a fact.

CLAIM: The peace symbol is the so-called "Nero Cross", the inverted crucifix on which St Peter was martyred and which has become an anti-Christian symbol.

FACT: The peace symbol looks nothing like an inverted crucifix. There is no record of any "Nero Cross" until Gumaer invented it in 1970.

CLAIM: The symbol was designed by Bertrand Russell, whom Gumaer describes as a Communist.

FACT: Bertrand Russell had nothing to do with the design and was never a Communist.

CLAIM: The symbol is the ancient death rune.

FACT: It is not, and the "death rune" is a 20th century fabrication. Runes are letters in the pre-Roman German alphabets that were used up to the Middle Ages. From about 1880 to 1945, German writers about the occult, often associated with racism and Nazism, said that the runes were not mere letters and had a power of their own. These interpretations are wholly fanciful and mutually contradictory. One of the writers, von List, discovered the meaning of the runes in a dream. Gumaer draws on a book by the famous typographer Rudolf Koch, "Das Zeichenbuch" or "The Book of Symbols", which shows a rune, the yr-rune, which looks like the middle of the peace symbol without a circle. Koch captioned it, "The man dies". Much of Koch's book is his own interpretation. Like every other interpretation of the runes, it is unsupported by the academic study of Germanic languages. There is no evidence that Holtom, the man who designed the peace symbol, knew anything about Koch or runes.

FACT: It is not. You can make few shapes from lines and circles, and so many of them look alike. As it happens, the semaphore for N and D has the same shape as the yr-rune, but there is no other connection.

CLAIM: Symbols have a meaning different from their intended meaning, their "real" or "inner" meaning. The peace symbol's real and inner meaning is not peace as Holtom intended, but Satanism, Communism and Nazism.

FACT: They do not. A symbol is a convention and it has no meaning other than the meaning given to it, no "inner" meaning. The meaning given to the peace symbol by Holtom and the peace movement was anti H-bomb and pro-peace. The only people to give it the meaning Satanism, Nazism and Communism are Gumaer and his followers.

In addition to the previous post (although I suppose it wasn't really necessary, seeing as the original thread is over 2 years old, and the thread author hasn't been online in over 6 months), I wanted to add:

The Peace Symbol has nothing at all to do with the Aum/Omm in Hinduism/Buddhism/Jainism.
Here are some examples of how Om is depicted in various scripts.
None of them could be twisted into the peace symbol.

Also, neither the Umayyads (the guys who conquered Spain in 711) or the Fatimids (the guys who the Crusaders attacked in the 1st Crusade around 1099) used the peace symbol, or any symbol at all. They had a plain white flag, and a plain green flag respectively.

And as for relating the peace symbol to the Fibonacci sequence, and thus communism/satanism.......

The peace symbol is equal to the NeroCross. Nero persecuted Christians. He designed an upside down cross in the form of a "V" and crucified Peter on it, head-down. This is according to Nestorius the Syrian, Patriarch of Constantinopel in 428-431 BC. In his works he describes the persecution of Christians by Nero. Since that time the Nero Cross received the name "Sign of the Broken Christian," or "of the Broken Jew," with reference to Peter. Three years after Peter's death the Roman legions marched into Jerusalem, and they had on their banners the Nero Cross as their insignia.

In 1917 the Bolsheviks painted the Nero Cross on the doors of the churches they had closed.
In 1099 the Muslims fought under this symbol against the Crusaders who invaded The Holy Land.

I love the peace sign. I have it as my facebook profile pic, I have it on my keychain, I have t-shirts with it on it. I am getting a tatoo of it. I am just wild about a symbol of peace, something I came to adore when I was a kid growning up in the 60's, it stands for peace. I don't give a poo what it used to stand for, every since the 60's it has stood for peace, as in Make Love, Not War

I don't think that there lies a Nero realated conspiracy that it is seen and is hot again right now, I figure that with all the chagrin in the old world today the message of peace has just begun to show up again thanks to some old hippies. Gotta love em.
