Jose Angel Cordova said the virus, blamed for at least 19 deaths in Mexico, appeared to have peaked between 23-28 April. "The evolution of the epidemic is now in its declining phase," Mr Cordova told a news conference.
Mexico's health secretary said Sunday the swine flu epidemic in his country "is in its declining phase," but stressed that people should remain vigilant against the disease.
"Some countries or places are taking discriminatory measures because of ignorance and misinformation," Calderon said in an interview broadcast on state television.
The Mexican Government says the flu threat in the country is receding, but more cases are emerging in the United States and several other countries.
The World Health Organization warned Friday that doctors around the world are now reporting a severe form of swine flu that goes straight to the lungs of otherwise healthy young people -- but some infectious disease experts said the alarm could be unwarranted.
At least 209,438 people worldwide have caught swine flu and at least 2,185 died of it, according to WHO. The real caseload is much higher because countries are no longer reporting individual cases.
