Clarke’s best books were written before the 1970s began. Some of them have dated badly, because he always salted his tales with extrapolations from
the science and technology of his day, and in many cases the future didn’t turn out exactly as he thought it would. Ten years on from 2001, for
example, we are still nowhere near capable of launching a manned mission to Jupiter.
For those who want to sample the very best of Clarke’s fiction, I recommend the following:
