Who is funding the Taliban? You don't want to know.

KABUL — It is the open secret no one wants to talk about, the unwelcome truth that most prefer to hide. In Afghanistan, one of the richest sources of Taliban funding is the foreign assistance coming into the country.

Virtually every major project includes a healthy cut for the insurgents. Call it protection money, call it extortion, or, as the Taliban themselves prefer to term it, “spoils of war,” the fact remains that international donors, primarily the United States, are to a large extent financing their own enemy.

“Everyone knows this is going on,” said one U.S. Embassy offi

The most disturbing part of war is not always the destruction it causes in the loss of life and damage to property. It's that the real enemy is often the people that are living right next door to you.

It would be easy to guess that some of the sources of the funding are immigrants from the region sending money "back home", but the most devasting truth will be the day we learn that multi-generational, born and raised Americans have determined that it is in their best interests to finance America's "enemies" to enable them to kill other Americans.

America brought you both sides of the war on drugs... does this really surprise any one?

Yup.

I would actually be shocked if they weren't funding the Taliban. My "step-uncle" is an intelligence officer for CDN military who has been stationed in afghanistan many times since the wars began.

His own words were that the whole thing is a joke. A war that is never meant to be won, he says the drones watch the 'insurgents' travel from city to city, one step ahead of our armed forces. They watch new recruits pour in from Pakistan. The entire thing he says "is a joke".

Allow them to mix, migrate and interact with their own kind, eventually you will eradicate the complete generation, although the ideology requires more funds and resources, but in due time, that too can be manipulated.

I'm sorry if I misunderstood, but I think he's trying to point out that there is no enemy, no war, just ongoing business. There's no ideology, no even "Taliban", just simply put business. I believe he's not lying about his cousin, as it matches stories of some people I had a chance to talk with.

I can imagine crime is flourishing in those regions, drugs, weapon sales, child labour, human trafficking, organ trade, whatever you want - no laws no bounds. Investments sent by other parties are certainly paying off.

But its not the Government that is actually doing the funding. It's private citizens who want to run/own/be in control of the government that have built up a private army to fight against official US forces.

Infiltrators and corruptors who are within the government, but its not government business to give money to the Taliban. Its some kind of Civil War in the United States...but one side of the war doesn't want itself to be revealed.

I wonder if this is where Bernard Madoff's $65 Billion disappeared to? Its not like investigators ever found cash or property reaching anywhere near that large a number and it would seem that financing a war that hasn't ended yet could eat up $65 Billion quite easily. 150 years in the booty house was a sweet deal for that guy if my hunch is correct.

Wow it's like we read two entirely different articles or perhaps you didn't bother reading past the first paragraph. Every country on the planet gets financial aid for projects from charities, the army, the IMF, banks, the UN and all kinds of companies.

“I was building a bridge,” he said, one evening over drinks. “The local Taliban commander called and said ‘don’t build a bridge there, we’ll have to blow it up.’ I asked him to let me finish the bridge, collect the money — then they could blow it up whenever they wanted. We agreed, and I completed my project.”

Many Afghans see little wrong in the militants getting their fair share of foreign assistance.

“This is international money,” said one young Kabul resident. “They are not taking it from the people, they are taking it from their enemy.”

The point of the article is that the money being sent to these places to help rebuild or protect is also being used to fund the destruction and deaths.

Thats interesting, i just saw a newsreport about militias in the US being back again under the Obama administration [they've been quiet onder the Bush admin]..You mean people like these?
If this is a substantial portion of money i think certain rules are to be made with the NATO allies otherwise keep it your own [civil] war and we're out..

See, this is what doesn't make any sense.

When you go to war, you are supposed to DESTROY the supply lines... not reinforce them!

You know what... I don't doubt it!!!! I suspected it... I think we all did... this just confirmed it.

It's kind of like finding out your significant other has been cheating on you all along. It's funny and sad all at the same time and really P*SSES you OFF!

I kind of siezed on this paragraph:

The new feeling is that less than half of the Taliban’s war chest comes from poppy, with a variety of sources, including private contributions from Persian Gulf states, accounting for much of the rest.

What you saying is definately true, but I think the point of the article is to deal with the source of Taliban funding and its been anything but determined what all those sources are. I dropped the Madoff debacle because $65 Billion is missing and most of it is not turning up...I don't care who you are that's a lot of money to just disappear and never be seen again...no greed is that insatiable. I remember hearing many references to "Black Box" investments that cannot be traced, with regards to the many men that are being sued for running ponzi schemes.

I think it is plausible that the money ended up...using private contributions from Persian Gulf states as cover...in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The new money to cover the old money dried up and the scheme couldn't operate anymore. What could Madoff and Stanford be afraid of talking about to the Federal investigators? Possibly of the power behind the darker aspects of this war seems about right.

Who'd rather spend 150 years in prison rather than tell the authorities everything?

So, its not that we were reading to different articles, but that I was focused on a small part of the article in relation to another phenomenon...the global ponzi schemes and the missing monies.

I once read a Reuters article...from December 19th (I think) 2006. It was full of typos....

For example...it called Moqtada al Sadr, Montana al Sadri. and the Medhi Army the Medic Army...and Nouri al Maliki, Nora al Malice. Below is a link of a copy of the story.

Iraq on Brink of becoming failed State

With regards to your statements about the Militias, when I read the article above I immediately began to draw a connection between the Montana Militia and the Mehdi Army and couldn't get it out of my head that militia in America and Iraq and Afghanistan are somehow related...just can't figure out how.

In addition to that I think they are not aware that they should be watching out for ambushes either. They get ambushed way to much over there.

This is what I am talking about...

Does anyone know if their is a connection between Bernard Madoff and Abd al-Muhsin al-Libi of the Revival of Islamic Heritage Society? It doesn't have to be close, maybe they both spent time at the same Kuwaiti Hotel in the mid-90s or something. Then you will see that the $65 Billion was used to purchase Kalashnikov's, Mortars and Rocket Launchers for the Mujahideen in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The real question is why would a Jewish person from Queens, New York be financing America's enemies, which in this case happen to be Islamic Militants in Afghanistan and Pakistan; especially when this particular Jew's clients are Zionist organizations, such as the Women's Zionist Organization of America?

Does this mean that Zionism and Militant Islam are in collaboration against the United States of America?

Yes...Militant Islam and Zionism are lovers and friends!! I got all that from this article and it all makes sense.
