Attention: The U.S. is NOT a Democracy

This may sound nit-picky but i think this is a very serious issue. The United States is not a democracy, the United States is a republic. Not a day goes by without hearing someone, especially politicians and the MSM, try to tell us that the U.S. is a democracy. I believe it it most likely designed to brainwash people into thinking that they have a say in things which we all know is **. If we were a democracy the bank bailout which the people were 50:1 against would not have happened.

I can't believe that the President of the United States doesn't know that we are a republic, he's supposedly a constitutional scholar right, yet he continues to call us a democracy every day. Clearly he knows, as do the rest on both sides, that the United States is a republic and is not a democracy.

I understand that a representative republic was necessary at the founding of this country for obvious reasons, however technology has given us the ability to vote on everything if we so desire. If people could vote on American Idol, they could vote for a bailout.

I believe that TPTB claim the democracy mantra while in fact maintaining the republic in order to ram down our throats so many things that absolutely would not pass if people were actually given a choice, which they could do. I would like to hear from others on this point, the insistence of maintaining the democracy lie when in fact we are not.

Yea we are a republic, very few people get the difference though. Which is why we can't have a true democracy. For the most part very few people have a clue what is going on in their own neighborhood let alone even the national level. The corruption we have now would be small potato's compared to what would happen with a more direct process.

Thank goodness we`re not a democracy, or else every idiot would have a say on behalf of the whole.

I think I have read somewhere here that since after the bankruptcy/default in the 1930's FDR and the 'Corporation' of D.C made the USA a democracy and a Corporation through Law?

But I could be very wrong? - or maybe I'm not?

A while back I started a thread that kind of relates to this. Most people don't understand the difference in the types of govt's.
Shame really, everyone calling each other Nazi, socialist or communist. But they cannot readily identify what type of system we have or the differences between them.

Yes we are a Representative Republic which seems not to be currently working to the People's benefit. The Problem with a True Democracy is that the majority rules. When the majority rules the minority is left out.

There is a saying in regards to True Democracies.......A Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner.....

But if you listen to our political leaders and their mouthpieces around the world they only seem to know one word: Democracy.

Every time the speak of our nation they use the word. Every time they address a foreign land they swoon over democracy, it's almost as if they don't want to acknowledge that we are not a democracy... because it weakens their own sense of control over those they've conned into granting them power.

I know GB has been calling it a Republic lately but you don't need to do it too.

You are right about becoming incorporated. Wrong about being incorporated making us a Democracy. We are still a Republic. Just consider our Elected and Appointed Officials to be the Board of Directors and the President to be the C.E.O.

But actually, it was just a formality for two separate reasons, both based on Supreme Court Decisions regarding the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution. One decision granted Corporations (who previously were bidders granted a Charter to serve a specific purpose in the Public Interest) the rights accorded individuals in the 14th Amendment, and the other was a decision that granted States the rights accorded to individuals under the 14th Amendment. Rather than have to deal with another Court Case that would have to be appealed to the Supreme Court, the United States incorporated, granting the Federal Government the same rights accorded individuals under the 14th Amendment too.

Back to the topic though...

For those that think a Republic is somehow better than a Democracy, I really have to scratch my head. Do you really think that the rich (Plutocracy) and the old (Geriocracy), the privileged (Aristocracy) and intellectually inept (Republic), whose votes are bought by the Corporations (Corporatism), who have no touch with reality in their ivory towers, really have the better interests of the Country or the People at heart? Do you really think that the lowest IQs on average for any profession are better off making decisions for the good of the Country and it's People than Joe Bob who sits in front of his TV drinking Beer all day while fondling his shotgun? If you feel the need to deny the stupid the right to a Democracy, then why the heck to you let the stupid run the government under a Republic? Where is the logic in that argument?

I really think that a Discursive Democracy would serve the United States far better, especially in this Information Age. Allow our elected Representatives to Draft the Legislation but allow the people to vote on the Legislation. You'd have the best of a Representative Republic and a Participatory Democracy.

Of course it's not a democracy. Iraq had an election with at least 20 different folks to choose from. Iran had like 3 or 4 on the ballot. In America we only get 2 to choose from, and then you get a write in option.
Not only that, but only two get air time in a "presidential debate". There's only two political parties. Nothing else gets any time on the idiot box. You're either democrat or republican, and they both have the same agenda, so you really don't get a choice. There are no alternative opinions, just attack Iraq, attack Iran, and let us strip search you because you might be a terrorist. That's all you have to choose from in America.

Well, at least most of us do.

Besides, for all intents and purposes, it becomes a matter of semantics. It is about a representative government and the small difference is whether you have politicians or civil bureaucrats.

Regardless of this minor hiccup... the issue is more with those who supposedly run that government... and I don't mean those elected.

The people own their governments but most do not understand this. The vote is but one small piece of the greater mechanism.

But then again... as long as Walmart is stocked and the bank hasn't raised the ATM fee, why complain?

Sure we know - but the average person has no idea we're not a democracy. And I can't believe that it's an accident. Ask anyone on the street what form of government the United States has and they will say "A Democracy."

Well if that's what they want to call us, then let's try it sometime. I sincerely doubt that even the majority of the people on ATS know that we are a republic and not a democracy. Go ahead and ask them - post the question "What form of government is the U.S." I would be truly shocked if they knew.

Don't neglect to consider Orwellian word play, if you take a barely English speaking immigrant who believes that the U.S. is a democracy, and then ask them do you want to be a Republican, or a Democrat, the majority will think "Hey, Democrat means democracy." Wouldn't they?

To be specific we are a federal constitutional republic. Federal meaning we are composed of various self governing states, contitutional referring to the fact that we have constitutional law, republic meaning that we have a representative government. This means that we as individuals really have no say in how our country is run other then electing representatives that have our interest at heart; or that is supposed to be how it works. And even that is mostly crap as we don't get to directly elect all of our representatives.

I always point this out to the hicks of the country that think that they have some sort of right to question the laws or how the government is doing its job. Guess what? They are wrong. I might wish, and even believe that we should have the right to appeal and review all government decisions, but I am not foolish enough to think that I have some legal right to do so just because I live here.

I just found this at dictionary.com. What do you think about this? You can hardly lambaste people for thinking we're a democracy when even the dictionary says we are.

Nope, sorry, It WAS a Constitutional Republic. I can't help but feel a parallel beetween the US now and Rome after the rule of the caesars. Know what I mean?

And in roman days that was the biggest political issue , to be a republic or a democracy .

No one party is ever best, and to think so is the main issue at hand still to this day. And that is what is creating all the fighting and chess play in politics. I mean we all are still playing the chess game and have been for a very very long time ,and no one has checked mated have they ??If so there would not be so many ideologies and the partisan politics that is now in place at the moment. Nothing is ever just night and day there always is a dawn and a dusk, its not just black and white, there is always grey(gray)

Partisan politics is still going strong and never will there be a true republic which is about individual freedoms and their governance,democracy is about the surfs and the elite ,and who is above each other hence the 51% rule over the 49% .Until each person can truly understand freedom, will we all ever be able to understand the dawn/dusk or the grey(gray) areas which is where all the magic in life will be.

We all have to understand that I am not above you, and you are not above me ,the rothchilds are not above you, and the rockerfellers are not above me . None is above anyone on this planet ! we are all human beings with equal universal Rights! So for anyone of the almost 7,000,000,000 people on this planet in any country is somthing OTHER than a human being , yours mines and the easter bunnys ideologies are not above anyones ,
