Is the flag@whitehouse program illegal?

I just came across this interview and video with Linda Douglas that makes the charge that Obama's snitch program is illegal. He cites the Privacy Act of 1974. Do we have any legal people around here to comment on this? This program hasn't felt right to me from the beginning and this babbling shill doesn't make me feel any better about it.

I really couldn't care less if it is legal or not. The point is that it's wrong. It is wrong and unethical, and I could compare this to 1984 all day. Remember the kids in 1984 reporting their parents to the Ministry of Truth?

Okay. All mail at the white house is automatically archived. It may be true that they simply glace at the e-mails and then delete them; however, there is an archived record. Also, the government has a right to ask citizens anything. They cannot force someone to give information but asking for it is simply fine.

Generally speaking there are a lot of liberty loving people on these forums (I'm one of them) but, I think a bit too much is being made of this. I question why the media covers this topic, when they ignore so many legitimate questions to real issues in our society.

I'm not a legal expert by any means, but from what I understand it is illegal Nixon tried something like this and had what he was doing shut down.

This is BS is what this is, there is no reason for this. Feels like I woke up in a communist country when I heard about this.

Agreed. It will only get worse from here on I'm afraid. They are now starting to block free thinking people out of town hall meetings, and my city just stopped holding them altogether!

I'm no lawyer (my parents were married )but what I know is that in the early seventies, Nixon tasked the National Guard and government agencies to tape and record war protesters. They fought back and the Supreme Court ruled that the president/government has no rights when it comes to supression or intimidation of free speech.
This is what I've heard concerning the current issue.
