Sorry to be offtopic and to reply to an old post, I just wanted to reply to a tagline.
Acknowledge ignorance. Question truth. Deny nothing.
I like this tagline, because it represents actual, independent thinking, and processing of "what's given from above", instead of blindly repeating
it without ever even realizing what it means. So many people simply ape the "deny ignorance", whenever they think someone is wrong. It's
astonishing.
However, although I think I know what you mean by "question truth", I do not agree with that part. You probably mean that "question the things that
people take as truth, although they might not be", or "question the stuff that is 'given' as the truth, whether it actually is or not". I do
agree with that.
But the way you have worded it, I do not agree with it. Truth doesn't need questioning, and shouldn't be questioned, because after all, it's the
TRUTH. It's not a CLAIM of truth, it's truth itself! Why question something that actually IS? It's like questioning whether existence exists or
not. Completely pointless, because if existence didn't exist, there wouldn't be anyone questioning it.
Question LIES and CLAIMS, sure. Question any kind of (false) AUTHORITY, sure. Question even your own opinions and facts (facts are not necessarily the
truth and the whole truth about something, they may well be distorted - or they may be lies, distorting the truth, partial truth, and so on. Someone
said that 'a fact is well explained real belief'). Question slogans, taglines, dogma, the obvious, etc.
But there is absolutely no reason to question the TRUTH itself - it wouldn't be the truth if questioning it would do you some good.
About the third commandment in the tagline, I'd say I agree with the main point of it, but the wording sort of awakens the wise-ass humorist in me,
who would like to just state that I wouldn't deny even THAT. (:
Denying is a closed-mind modus operandi, an inquisitive, curious and knowledge and wisdom-gathering mind needs no such dark gimmicks, which only
serve to close the mind more, and to learn less about the world, the surroundings, the Universe and the truth.
Deniers don't like this truth of course.. but they are free to deny it all they want, it won't disappear.
