Some Democratic lawmakers are opting for smaller sessions, holding meetings by phone or inviting constituents for one-on-one office hours.

You think the town-hall debacles are going to go away? You would be right if you had it the Democrats way! They are doing everything they can to ignore the American people. Now they just want to talk over the phone or in a one on one meeting - DURING OFFICE HOURS!!

This is truly amazing - are they running? Hiding? Or stalling?

Here's a quote from the article:

The health-care debate was supposed to play out at rallies and inside gymnasiums when lawmakers headed home for the August recess.

But after a series of contentious town-hall meetings, some Democratic lawmakers are thinking twice about holding large public gatherings. Instead, they are opting for smaller sessions, holding meetings by phone or inviting constituents for one-on-one office hours.

Democrats have accused Republicans of manufacturing the opposition by organizing groups to attend the events and encouraging disruptive behavior. Republican organizers say the unrest reflects genuine anger about the proposed health-care changes.

"Democrats may think that attacking or ignoring this growing chorus of Americans is a smart strategy, but they are obviously forgetting that these concerned citizens are voters as well," said Paul Lindsay, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, the House GOP's campaign arm.

Rick Scott, who leads Conservatives for Patients' Rights, a group that has helped publicize the local meetings, said: "The polls reveal the real picture of what is happening across the country -- people are genuinely concerned, some are genuinely angry, and they are expressing themselves."

The Senate on Friday headed home for a monthlong break after progress stalled on passing sweeping health-care legislation. House members, whose break started a week ago, have been hit with a flood of inquiries about the legislation since they arrived home.

Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D., Ariz.) on Thursday canceled her public schedule for the day after a "Chat with Ann" session at a Safeway grocery store in Holbrook, Ariz., turned rowdy.

Here's the article

They are so F# scared it's not even funny. At least we're doing something to get them thinking. They can't even stand up in front of the American people and debate their side!

All they are doing is putting a nail on their own coffin. They don't have enough time to listen to the voters one on one. Voters will get tired of being ignored and find somebody else to replace the ones that are not listening to them.

Amazing how they can criticize the public on national tv, but can't face the ones they criticize.

I agree but what possible Democrat strategy could come of this? This is just going to fuel the fire.

As long as the reps don't do anything stupid their gig is up. They know this is the end of the road for their political careers.

Bunch of freaking cowards, they want to pop off at the mouth then when it comes time to deal with it they want to put it off. What a bunch of bull.

This feels like a slap in the face to the American people. It's like saying "Yeah you could speak your opnion, we just won't be there to listen".

They forgot long ago who they work for! Look at how they act... private jets, lush pay increases, benefits that the "Commoner" could never enjoy. These jackasses think that they are royalty and that they have no recourse for us silly little people.

VOTE THEM OUT!!! And if that doesn't work and they refuse to leave - we will carry them out on stretchers!

I think they want the town hall meetings to stay, but the people there need to be calm.

One man started screaming over the speaker of the event, and wouldn't allow him to finish. He just kept on yelling at him. He had to be removed.

These discussions have to remain civil.

Though, really, if conservatives want to be linked with this, fine.

People commiting violence and spouting hatred if they don't get it their way. That's truly American...

Nobody is stopping them, but if people continue this behavior, they'll have to be arrested to protect others.

I'm done with these protesters hurting other people. Or democrats who are allowing these events to come receiving death threats.

THIS IS NOT AMERICA.

People commiting violence and spouting hatred

Yes, I would like to direct your attention to This Thread and also This thread.

That is the democrats doing that, and there are a few others floating around the site that also back this up.

The only people committing violence and spewing hatred are the people that are claiming to be "against" it.

There is no reason for these reps to avoid the town halls, they have run amok unchecked for years now, it's time for them to deal with the consequences. If they don't like it then they shouldn't have done it to begin with.

Lawmakers Rethinking Town Hall Strategy (Read This!!)

When the town hall organizers start ignoring the people they are supposed to represent in the first place that is a perfect example of something GOING COMPLETELY WRONG.

I say people should mandate that all protests and all citizens and all opinions are represented at town hall meetings. And if this does not happen.......MAKE A SCENE, A REALLY BIG SCENE.

Actually, there is.

One representative canceled his appearance at a town hall meeting after he received a death threat.
