Has political correctness goine too far?

Before I begin I would just like to say, for those of you whom are not aware, I believe that political correctness is meaningless. It is a valid idea, but it fails in practice, and I will tell you why.

In modern society, there are some things someone cannot say, even in the United States where Freedom of Speech is praised by its citizens. There are some things you cannot say because people might be offended from what you say. That is understandable. However, have we gone too far? Have we allowed ourselves to choke on this concept for so long that it overrides commonsense. With Freedom of Speech exploitation aside, is political correctness the way to go?

The problem I have with political correctness is that people are afraid to say what they want because they fear of being judged as either a 'racist' or 'prejudice.' Also, there is undoubtedly a double standard when it comes to political correctness. Here is an example:

African-American.
White man/woman.

Where did Caucasian go? Why must I call someone an African-American when for one, I don't know if they are really an American, and two, I don't know if they are immigrants from Africa, which in most cases isn't true.

On another flank of this issue there are women. Now, I believe women are equal to men and they deserve equal treatment in the workplace and at home, but woman's rights activists are about as annoying as the NAACP. I heard on the news that they are trying to remove the words 'caveman', along with other words that have the word 'man' in it, from the dictionary. That is too far.

Now, I could go on and on about this issue, but I want to see what you guys think about this. Has political correctness gone too far? And is it going to be the end of Freedom of Speech?

No one thinks this is a legitimate issue?

I mean, I know my typo in the thread's title is discouraging, but come on. This could be part of the population control for NWO, don't you think?

Simply put, I just ignore political correctness. In my opinion, most people that act offended are doing so simply because they can. Getting sympathy from people puts one in control of a situation. That's why i don't play ball, basically. I say what i want about what I want, however, I don't mind at all if people make a joke about my, say, ridiculous haircut.

I agree with you, take the term "reverse-racism" for example, used to describe when someone is being racist against a white person.

How is that reverse? its just plain racist, as if white people invented racism.
People were accusing sotomayor of being reverse racist, it makes no sense.

I am right there with you. I don't take people seriously when they try to bring me down another level, because I already put myself at the lowest level possible! So it makes it that much easier to laugh it off.

However, it irritates me when the NAACP takes everything that a white man says as racial. They play that card too much.

That is a very good point! I forgot all about the reverse-racism thing, ti was something that bothered me too.

PC is total crap.

It is just another way of controlling the herd (us, that is).

Freedom of Speech? What a joke.

We, the people, are forever being dictated to by...who?

Just other people.

How dare they vandalise our language, the English language is utter perfection, and these filthy people want to change it to make their ego feel better and quell their ideological flame. How about they deal with it, chairman, spokesman, mailman, fireman, policeman, mankind, caveman and man are all english words and people understand them to mean both male and female genders, the only people this bothers is those pathetic wastrals who have way to much time on their hands.

I agree with no doubt. I read on a newpaper that this woman was blaming men for the credit crunch and that women should be in control of it. Man my blood boiled. Silly woman doesn't know that even she is sexist.

And racism is just stupid now. Not to be rude, but people should just get over the past slavery years and live now. So what if someone called you a (Am I allowed to say it?) N...... Just take it like anyother swear word. It's not like Jews don't marry Germans or not cook in an oven. They got past it, and that wasn't very long ago.

Just forget the meaning of the word, unless it is for educationl purposes and it's all good.

Only men can be sexist.

Only white people can be racist.

That irritates me as well. Give a dog a bone and he...er, she thinks she can get the next one without your help and you are a waste of space.

They make the argument whenever they are in a corner, 'well we give birth to all men.'

That may be true, but you cannot a-sexually reproduce. Sorry to say, but you need men just as much as men need women.
