The Airborne Laser (YAL-1A)

If I were say, Israel, that would be quite convenient way to get rid of my Arab neighbours. Nuke the US and blame it on the muslims. Or for that matter, a good trick for anybody else who doesn't like the muslims - or Chinese - or North Koreans - or anybody else.

Well nuking Israel neghbours will be not the best thing for Israelis... The radiation would probably make also Israel unhabitable.

I know that this thread is nearly 20 years old, but a complete history of tests of the airborne laser fitted to the Boeing YAL-1 aircraft in the years before the ABL program was canceled in 2010 is provided at these links:

As a side note, the Boeing ABL initially had the designation YFC-36A reserved for it in the spring of 1996, but the Defense Department designated this 747 as YAL-1A, probably because it didn't consider the intended role of the YAL-1A similar to that of a jet fighter.
