Between the birther threads and the truther threads, the more I visit ATS the less I want to visit ATS.

There's denying ignorance and then there's embracing it.

Just sayin...

Listen to me you disbelievers...

When my original birth certificate was produced in 1964 when I had to provide it for a SS#, it was a LOT different than the one I got 2 years ago. The original one was "thrown out" by my last apartment manager, when she also threw away ALL my boxes of original Movie Scripts (while I wasn't home--I was WORKING) because she said I had "too many boxes in my apartment, and they constituted a FIRE HAZARD."

I had no recourse; I couldn't afford to sue her, but I surely wished her dead... The 2nd Birth Certificate I received didn't give HALF of the info the first one had. It didn't list the residence address of my mother and father at the birth, it didn't list my mother's maiden name, it just said which County I was born in, and on what day; it didn't even list tie time or hospital.

When County Seats went to Computers, they deleted out a LOT of data.

I'd have to PHYSICALLY go to my hometown, 2700 miles away, and request a copy of the original, hand-written Certificate ... and I'm told it would take 3 weeks, and I would have to pay $15/hour for someone to look for the box in which it's kept, to get a photocopy of the Original. That could be HUNDREDS of dollars.

STOP RAGGING on President Obama. He's a legal-born American Citizen. Anyone who pursues this is a closet racist. GET OVER IT.

For some of these people (and it's a limited "some") Race has nothing to do with it. It's a pure hatred for what they deem as a threat to Republican dominance.

We are in what is the end result of some 30 years of Republican Deregulation. The end result was the catastrophe that is this recession.

Too little people looking at the likes of Bernie Madoff and his Ilk.

The problem people interested in proving this conspiracy real is simply that Obama is in their minds a socialist. He want's to give people that don't have enough a chance to make it through this.

Republicans would rather spit on the people that this recession is most effecting. The working class.

To the average Republican, the working class are lazy and not worthy of a bailout. But giant corporate banks are the backbone of this economy and worthy of saving.

Obama represents a threat. And that threat must be dealt with in any way possible. That is why the lies, the propaganda, the bull dunk flows from republican news sites such as the WND.

The short of it is that since the matter of the certificate is not being allowed into the courts, than it is up to a process outside of the courts to establish the facts. Same goes for 911 issues.

So - as it goes with police these days, if you have nothing to hide, then you shouldn't be too concerned about letting them inspect your vehicle, or home, without a warrant. Conversely, if the government has nothing to hide, then they shouldn't be too concerned about letting it proceed to formal legal review.

If police need "mere suspicion" - by right, all we need is mere suspicion about the government, too. And the government has given enormous grounds for giving us all a reason to be suspicious about everything it does.

We've thoroughly reversed how the roles should be played out; the government is accountable to us and we are accountable to the courts. When we ask questions of the government, we want honest answers; we are not paying them to laugh at or ridicule anyone. Government and MSM are able to apply to unprofessional standards and get away with it. That needs to be changed now.

On the basic level all politicians are the same regardless of who they are or what they claim. I had no illusions about Obama from the very beginning...he is a politician with all that implies both good and bad.

Obama is not a socialist (trust me, I am, he's not) nor is he all that liberal...he is a left leaning moderate and that is all.

Some of his policies so far I agree with and some I vehemently disagree with...others I could care less one way or the other...

Every person who is elected president begins with continuity and carries over some policies of their predecessor so we see Obama carrying over some ob bush minor's...even some of his most despised policies. If there were no continuity the ship of state would careen wildly back and forth as it switched hands and that is not good for the country...you see the same sort of thing in congress.

All of the people I have seen elected so far change after those first rounds of briefings if they are paying any attention whatsoever and become more centerist...

All of the above is true but for the blithers and the people who fuel the flames of their gulliblity Obama has to be defined as the other...and more importantly the hated other to keep the base fired up....

And that other can be black...(and if race isn't an issue why have so many racial slurs been made about him by (usually state and local but still) GOP officials?)
It can be implied that he is a closet Muslim
I've seen it implied that he is homosexual
And in the case of the blithers that he is somehow unqualified to be president because his birth certificate is a forgery...
AND connected to this is the even weirder theory that he is somehow a mancuhrian candidate (obviously Muslim) out to destroy America.

EVEN my dog knows all of this is silly and he is a master of the silly

But really the point of all this nonsense is to keep the base fired up and hating and nothing more...its ugly but its true.

Nope. This is the United States of America and No one is searching anything of mine without a warrant. I have nothing to hide but this is a right guaranteed me by the constitution. Are you saying we should just toss that out?

I have heard that argument before and it stinks every time I hear it...we have rights and regardless of whether you have anything to hide or not is moot...you are entitled to them and one is the freedom from unreasonable search and seizure with or without a warrant...

The only way we will continue having rights regardless of which party controls congress, the white house or the courts is to continue demanding them.

That is where we differ from other countries.

Try Congress. They are the only ones that are allowed to impeach the president.

Suspicion is not enough for a police officer to search you. They need probable cause

This is just another way that the right wing can erode the constitution as they see fit. During the last administration we saw collectively our rights being eroded and marginalized. The right wing used fear of terrorists to pass the patriot act and used fear to use illegal eavesdropping on private phone calls.

They are now using that same fear campaign to try and further erode our constitutional rights.

Every time I hear a birther shout "Just show the long form birth certificate and we will go away" I cringe inside, because I know that person has no respect for the constitution and the law. I know from that statement, that individual protected rights mean nothing to that person and they would be willing to throw them all away in order to get back at one man.

What birthers don't seem to grasp is that in order to impeach and remove a president that was legally elected, legally confirmed and legally sworn in. (irregardless whether or not he is eligible, the procedures that took place were all legal)

Therefore, the only way for birthers to get their way and to have Obama removed from office is to have him impeached and the SCOTUS no matter how many lawsuits are brought before it cannot do this. This is why these bull dunk lawsuits are thrown out every time.

Congress is the only branch of government that is legally allowed to remove the president.

Nutters?

If these people are all nutters, then why don't you go and collect that $100.000 that's offered to anyone who can proof Obama's a natural born citizen?

I mean, if you're so sure about this that your willing to join the MSM campaign in painting a specific picture of people who question the authorities, why not get wealthy in the process?

Enough with the generalizations already...

Nutters is an accurate description.

That offer is absurd - if they don't consider a displayed COLB, birth announcements in the local papers, and the State of Hawaii repeatedly stating he was born there as reliable evidence, nothing is going to constitute "proof" as far as the birthers are concerned.

Nothing.

If God himself were to come down from the sky in a fiery golden chariot and carve "OBAMA WAS BORN HERE" into the side of Diamond Head, he would immediately be denounced as a Communist agent

Turn it around: is there even a shred of reliable evidence that Obama was born anywhere else than Hawaii?

The burden of proof lies with the people making silly claims.

So far they have produced nothing.

I can't believe I'm defending Obama, but I need to say that Obama has NO HAND in this. He has no need to appease those of you asking him to prove a negative. Which is why it is utterly absurd to say that "all he needs to do is present his birth certificate..."

He doesn't have to do jack-(you know what). If he did do something, he'd be giving credence to a fake, wimpy cult of paranoia and conspiracism and appeasing people who, for one reason or another, do not like having Barack Hussein Obama in office.

My hope is that Mr. Obama will ignore this retarded request from now on and focus on providing national security and rebuilding the economy.

You could very well be right, but from what I gather, all these people wish to see is a scan of the original BC which this Health Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said:

verifies Barack Hussein Obama was born in Hawaii and is a natural-born American citizen

If there is a document that verifies it, why not take a picture, cross out any info he doesn't wish to share (like father's name?) and show it to the people?

I mean, even though some people may just be after him because of his skin color, surely others are only concerned about this because they wish to see an open, transparent, honest President that doesn't like to play games.
People here say over and over again that a simple action like this wouldn't satisfy the people, but I think that's an exaggeration. Sure, some people will hold on to this till their grave, but the majority would be relieved.

Seems to me this is only an issue because Obama let it become one, and then it grew into a big issue because of the ridiculously easy solution that could settle this, but I'm willing to admit that I may not have all the info.

That's why I don't stoop to the level of generalizations and name calling; 'nutters' nor 'sheeple'...

Funny how this subject has resulted in a double standard of name calling by the same people who cry foul when they are labeled as "kool-aid drinkers, Obamatrons, Moonbats, Left Wing, Liberal etc etc

All name calling aside it is time to open your eyes and realize that this country is heading for a massive downfall if we stay on our current tack. I hope you are all viable and healthy contributors to the tax system. If you are not and you become ill under Obama's health care plan you will be cast aside. If you are obese Obama will tax or fine the weight right off of you.

latimesblogs.latimes.com...

Freedom will be a distant memory.

The dollar is in the dumps. www.bloomberg.com...

Unemployment continues to rise especially as the seasonal workers hired under Obama's stimulus start to lose their jobs and head back to high school.

Take the blinders off and let reality in for about five minutes. Ask your president to show you his birth certificate or his passport records. The colb that is so proudly displayed says nothing. Ask your prez. who his real father is.

I enroll kids in youth soccer programs and I have never seen such a document like his colb. All of the BCs that I have seen over the years look just like mine. They detail the parents, religion, the hospital, the doctor, the race etc.

Unbelievable. Obama let it become an issue???

Last I checked, he was not questioning his own citizenship. Last I checked, he was not calling himself an illegal immigrant and a non-citizen of this country.

Obama has no hand in this. The freaks of the birth movement have EVERY hand in this. This is all on them. And I hope the president is as smart as to not appease a bunch of fakes and losers.

Again with the name calling, a good way to add substance to your post!

I didn't say Obama made it an issue in the first instance, but since he had his records sealed, he threw gasoline on the fire.

If the document mentioned in the OP, the one that VERIFIES his natural born citizenship, is real, then Obama's actions to keep it hidden from view are responsible for this issue to escalate to where it is now. I don't see what's so hard to understand about that.

Sure, he doesn't legally have to tour it around and show it in all corners of the USA, but it would be a nice gesture of being above petty racism or child's play, of being the better man he's supposed to be, to just scan the document and publish it online.

Like I said, he could even black out info he doesn't want made public, but as long as his birthplace is shown, we should be good to go.

You hope he will not 'cave in' to the 'fakers and losers', but that is in my opinion not the exemplary behaviour I'd like to see in a president.

He should be above all that, and deliver the transparency and Change he promised, and put the worried minds of his people at rest, regardless of them being losers or racist.

It's odd that the number is blacked out. If we knew the number it would be much easier to check its authenticity. There is no good reason for blacking it out.

For a completely nonsensical thing, there sure is a lot of talk about the birth certificate issue lately. it's turning up on Fox, daily show mentioned it again and a big segment on colbert report, including a visit from orly taitz, who was prevented from making any real points by colbert. what's the deal with that? yes, they ridicule it all, just as folks here do, but the fact that they feel the need to mention and ridicult it (like they did sarah palin) makes me think they are scared of it.
