Guess they are just planning for the worst. This is definitely going to be an interesting flu season.

City plans to use catacombs for swine flu victims

A city council said Saturday it was considering using underground burial chambers, currently a tourist attraction, to store the corpses of swine flu victims if the pandemic worsens.

Exeter City Council said the empty 19th-century catacombs could become an emergency mortuary.

A council spokesman said the plan could be put into operation if the cemeteries and the crematorium could not keep up with funeral demands.

He said: "We have some empty catacombs in an old cemetery in the city. These are 19th century underground burial chambers which are normally a tourist attraction," he said.

"They can, however, be safely used for their original purpose and allow us to temporarily store bodies in the remote possibility that the need should arise."

Figures out Friday showed that 72 people were in hospital with swine flu in the Devon and Cornwall area surrounding Exeter, while 2,000 visited their doctors for treatment.

At least 30 people with swine flu have died in Britain, which has been hit harder than any other European territory by the A(H1N1) virus.

Officials said Thursday that there were around 100,000 new cases of swine flu in England last week as a new website and telephone service was launched to help people identify symptoms and receive drugs.

How much more obvious does it have to get before we (the sheeple) realise that TPTB are taking the p*$$ out of us?

100,000 people in the United Kingdom are suspected of having swine flu... in a population of 65 million, it isn't worth bloody well reporting!

10,000 people die in just one year from complications in normal flu in the UK. Yet we have 30 people that have died in 6 months from swine flu and people are acting like the sh:t has already hit the fan!!!!!

What on earth are people thinking? Are we all do brain dead that we cannot see sense any more?

Normal flu affects a large portion of the population in any given outbreak, yet this swine flu seems to be affecting a tiny portion of the population and there is a percieved panic in the streets. Commuters in London have been spotted wearing face masks - to them I say; "You bunch of MUPPETS!"

This whole affair is nothing more than a money making scheme and yet another excuse to keep the sheeple scared and distracted from the real events in life. That's it.

It gets me so mad that people are so blind to the facts. The world is so ignorant and stupid that I sometimes think it would be best if we killed everyone and let the planet go its merry way without us infesting it.

I am amazed that no one has picked up on this thread yet...

It is one we should all be jumping on, because of it's obvious implications...

Would you be saying, the exact same thing, if they came out with figures topping over 1 million people affected?

No you would not be.

I have enough to worry about a friend on here who has the swine flu without debating this with you.

Will say though, A City reserving thier catacombs for corpses is way ott propoganda to say the least.

This is in Exeter
That's like 40 miles from here!

I really can't see things getting to the mass grave point, but who knows? I would of thought a few refrigerated trucks in hospital grounds up and down the country would of been more than sufficient.

I've no idea how big these catacombs are, I've never heard of them. I wonder if they are planning permanent graves or just storage untill they can either bury or cremate the bodies?

Edit: note to self - read the flipping article first!

I would question cremation, would that kill the virus or make it more aibrone. No doubt it is airborn now, so if they did decide to cremate, that would make no difference.

I just think this is scaemongering, until I see figures hitting over 1million swine flu cases then I might start to be concerned. Untilthen no.

Yup. A mortuary is not a grave.
