Hi guys an' dolls, a big hello from bonnie Scotland!

Now the niceties are over my UFO "take"........

I would love UFO's to be real however, I'm rather sceptical about it all as there simply isn't any proof whatsoever held by anyone anywhere. All UFOlogists, that's the believers, act purely on faith, a belief system which, by any other name is bordering on a religion. Proof denies faith (apparently) therefore no proof is required, the circle is easily squared that way. I appreciate that the believers defence of "absence of evidence is not evidence of abscence" can be used however that is called an argument of ignorance, Wiki it, a circular argument. Trying to browbeat someone with such statements is mere symantics, UFOlogists employ arguments where they can't prove anything to you and so ringfence you with an argument that you cannot find fault. Proof that is what is needed not words or phrasing, sort it out!!!! UFOlogy parallels religion very well actually and both are equally as valid too, "Thank God I'm an Athiest!" as I like to say but only afer some clever person once said before me.

All that having been said, I do believe some wierd stuff!

i heard someone once say "the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence-but it is a good enough reason to have strong doubts" (or something along those lines)

your post made me think of that and i thought you might enjoy that or... something

anyways. hello to bonnie scotland.

question, what exactly does "bonnie" mean anywho? ive heard it said before but i have little grasp on the meaning of scottish lingo and phrases

Bonnie means beautiful.

Thanks for the reply too! The "stitch on" after my abscence quote was indeed exactly my point which you have exhibited so well and actually rienforces what I say about ringfencing in symantics, thank you.

I respect your beliefs but, unfortunately, your beliefs are not fact, assuming, of course, you're on that particular side of the ringfence that I'm not.

not really a believer in UFO's in the sense that they are aliens. i do believe in UFO's as the term was originally meant.

i believe there are things seen and captured on film that may be flying, and from the evidence given cannot be identified, but i am not so quick to declare aliens. i withhold judgment on that for now.

thanks for answering my question. its what i assumed, but its better to ask and find out than guess later on.

Welcome... your statement about ufology is very correct, and if you've been following a lot of the discussions you'll see how many blind devotees there are in this community.
It's actually equally as scary as to see one of those insane christian extremist shows where some redneck preaches to some other rednecks who think that if they give him money then all their troubles disappear.

Nice to see another atheist here...

Hi there, thanks for your reply.

I'm not here to dis anyones beliefs in any way, nor am I here to try and coerce anyone over to my way of thinking (though obviously I'm pleased that, though in the minority, I'm not in a minority of one!). I believe in science, science is my "God" not ashamed nor afraid to say it either. Why is science my "God", well its simply because it is the God of Proof end of. I appreciate that some may bid me caution in mans ventures, oh the vanity, into the nature of things but lets face it, to all the religious lot out there, your God needs Man, and why does he/she? Why its simple, if there's no Man then God would not exist either. "Oh the humanity!"

Hello fellow Scot! UFO is a description of just that!

Aliens? I'm not convinced with any proof sofar... Most pics or video are just flying objects that have no obvious answer?

Little green men? Nope!

Sorry I don t agree.

If it is equally as scary as to see one of those insane christian extremist shows

Why not change the channel if it is not your type of viewing ?

And people being blind devotees is somewhat harsh ,sorry these people you categorize as extremists are only venting their own beliefs or there own experiences trying to come to some logical conclusion and most times that is impossible to obtain.

Most of the UFO sightings don't appear to be of a Alien nature as we tend to think of Aliens.

being that, there is some other goings on In our atmosphere that we don't understand.

And Yes I would like to see an actual close up photo of one myself and
not some speck in the sky.

Anyway Hello to baba484 in Scotland .....

Thanks

Ocker

Hi ocker, thanks for your welcome, appreciated.

I visit a few sites though don't have much to contribute really, less my wee voice of course. I respect your views and have no wish to change them, their yours borne out of your own thoughts and therefore sacred. That was a nice junxtaposition if I do say so meself, throwing in the word "sacred" atests to that primitive feeling we all have about unknowns we are not knowledgable about.

The change the channel comment above was a slip though, if the poster were indeed to change the channel is isolationist in my view, banish your detractors so your community is populated by like minded folks is akin to book burning. Not all books say nice things but we dont burn them do we? Forgive my petulance however as a believer in "something" your must act the apostle, act the teacher, teach. I have followed debate after debate regards the whole UFO thing, it is an exciting world indeed full of many differing views yet the conclusion is always attributal to extra terrestrial dictate. All I want is proof positive, joining this community will hopefully lead there however, I'm 47 years old and I don't think its coming in my lifetime ......................boo hoo hoo!

I respect your views and do not in any way diminish them they are as valid as my own.
