The bible seems to speak of this abomination of desolation that it is the final straw on the camels back ...that pisses God off so much that it brings the very end of the end as it were.

Does anybody have any thoughts on what this thing or act exactly is? In Daniel it is spoken of as the man of sin sitting in the holy place (must be a rebuilt temple in jersulaem) claiming to be God. Is that it or something else?

Your thoughts?

The Jews thought that the abomination that causes desolation was Antiochus Epiphanes. He desecrated the Temple by sacrificing a pig on the Altar, he forced people to worship him as a god (he took the name Epiphanes=God manifest), this caused the Maccabean rebellion.

The man sitting in the holy place is antichrist, he sets himself up as a god to be worshipped, in Revelations it tells that the false prophet (a religious leader) helps the A/C come to power and force his mark on people.

There are numerous answers for this question, and their may be more than one correct answer. it could be historical as well as prophetic.

I read that the Roman standard was the "Abomination".

When the Romans invaded Jerusalem in 76AD they stuck their standard in the middle of the temple site, after burining it to the ground (I think)

That time is mentioned about by Jesus in other places as well. It was the event that scattered the jews to the world for 2000 years., and 3 million died in the city at that time.

When the romans invaded all Israel were all there for a festival so were trapped. Then the different sects in the city fought against each other, and finally the romans stormed the city and killed the rest.
