Palestinians meet their worst enemy

Thursday, July 09

In 1948, the United Nations established separate Palestinian and Jewish homelands with clear boundaries. Israel accepted, but the Palestinians joined other Arab countries in a failed attempt to destroy the new Jewish state. Both sides lost much blood, but the Palestinians also lost their country. They're still looking for it.

Following the 1967 Six Day War, Israel offered to return the freshly conquered lands in exchange for peace. The Palestinians joined other Arab countries to declare what became known as the Three No's: No peace, no recognition, no negotiations. Most Palestinians were now ruled by Israel, and still are.

Nine years ago, Israel offered the Palestinians the West Bank, Gaza and a slice of Jerusalem in exchange for peace. The reply was more violence against Israeli civilians. Peace was the deal-breaker.

In 2005 the Palestinians were given complete control of Gaza, with the expectation that they would build an infrastructure for statehood. Instead, they plunged into civil war and unleashed thousands of missiles against Israeli civilians.

The Palestinians blame Israel for their suffering while making choices that manifest their misery. They reject what they need while conjuring nothing they want. They sell themselves as surrogates for other people's agendas, only to be used up and abandoned. They embrace a diabolical cult that deifies suicide and murder in the name of a God who would never sanction

what they do.

If Israel withdrew from the West Bank today, moderate Palestinians would be obliterated and Tel Aviv would be an easy target for missiles. Zionism focuses on creation while the Palestinians focus on destruction. Only one of them prevails.

Meanwhile, Israeli Jews have resumed their place as a dynamic and distinct Middle Eastern tribe. Behind the scenes, most Arab states have abandoned their opposition to Israel in favor of a de facto alliance against a shared threat, while the Palestinians have aligned themselves with parties that comprise the threat. Once again, the Palestinians have chosen the wrong side of history.

The article speaks for itself. A great summary of the issues leading up to the tension that we all know exists today. Definitely a recommended read.

Actually the article has no bearing on reality. Nine years ago Israel was grabbing more of the occupied territories. Bush instigated the Road Map for Peace that allowed a 'hudna' truce between the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli Occupation.

Shortly after Israel besieged the PA, flattened the centre of Jenin, shot up the birth place of Jesus in Bethlehem, continued to assassinate PA officials while Bush was trying to save the Road Map and large portion of the Palestinian land guaranteed by the Oslo Treaty was being stolen.

Considering the length of space available to a letter to the editor what is presented above isnt a bad take on things at all . What the author crucially fails to mention is that Israel failure to invest in the Palestinian people has lead to Palestinian moderates either supporting terrorist organisations or just facing the squeeze by being forced to support the crazies . I do not foresee the Palestinian people getting out of the limbo they are in because neither the two state model or integration with Israel looks set to be a realistic goal .

This is way too one sided to be in any way objective.

So basically, the reporter decided that Israel was offering peace all the time, and the Palestinians would not take and attack them again.

not one mention of the reasons behind the hatred towards Israel. Its not only about land. Maybe the land is the base for the beginning of the problem, but in reality, Israel has committed some terrible war crimes against the Palestinians. The situation there is very similar to the apartheid in SA pre 94.
One side way more powerful and dominant than the other, allowed to do as they please, and no one to stop them.
The average Palestinian living in palastine now will definitely know some one, or be related to someone, who is killed, lost his home, lost his business, been abused, or taken into Israeli prison. This is where the hatred stems from.

Did you forget the land grabbing? did you forget the numerous times Palestine was sealed, without food or medicine, and bombarded day and night? Basic human rights was not offered to these people.

and most importantly, when the Palestinians went through a democratic election, and the bad guys won, Hamas, dont you remember what went on?

Before recommending this, have a quick read through history, from objective sources. its not too old of a story, people remember.

I can sit here and write a book about this - there are thousands of examples, things that if they happened to you, youd think its the end of the world. these people have to live with them every day. Have some humanity people.

please note - im not saying the Palestinians did not do anything wrong, but, dont blame it all on them.

One thing that Jews and Palestinians both share a belief in is the Old Testament, where it teaches "an eye for an eye".

Maybe this is the reason why Christianity came about.
Until these two religious groups learn how to "turn the other cheek" (New Testament teachings), only then will peace be possible.

An excellent summation.

Those lands Israelis won? In a war.

From the very ones who promised would make the land run with Israeli blood.

Dumb, inept, stupid people, and they haven't gotten it yet.

Never will, either.

Israel is going nowhere, ever again.

" flattened the centre of Jenin,"

The Jenin Massacre? That thing reported by Amnesty International but never occurred? Once again masonwatcher you are wrong. Source: NGO-Monitor

They've been expelled from the Middle East thanks to the Romans, they went to Europe and found persecution, now they've come back to find hostility from the Arabs. They have the means to stay. They will stay. They will continue to stay. No biased NGO can stop it.

Hi Alxandro/
Well said!

And what century, actually, what millenium do you propose this will happen?
I tell you now, when this begins to happen, then we have reached the end of the World.
